dunno what category to put this under...regardless. i wanted a falcata. so i set out and MADE ONE! oh ya!
but lemme give credit where credit is due.
my father cut it out and did a majority of the grinding.
good friend nessy straightened it and hardened it.
i pretty much did the handle and the scabard.
the leatherwork was done by my cousin.
regardless falcatas is where its at!

heated the entire blade up and hardened it in used motor oil (quenched it) so it was a little dark then. put in oven and cooked to 700 degrees Fahrenheit which turns the steel a blue color actually and that is suppose to temper it properly... but I am still afraid to take it out and whack anything to tough for fear of chipping it. i want to have it tested Rockwell hardness make sure its in the 40's range... i guess we'll see how it turns out.
essentially to answer your question. thats the color it was when i was done, i didn't polish it

carved it out of an old truck spring. using torch and grinder.
the handle is mahogany! the scabard is well... idk it use to be a pallet :@

Indeed, the only way to have something the way you want it is to make it yourself! Maybe you guys should make a few more and sell them at the renfest or somethin'. It'd be good-quality stuff, I know that!
