and I may have gotten a little carried away with making my own little "not exactly personality swap but more of a things in life went different and now sponge is the grump and squid is the sunshine" AU

where squid is just living his best life,
squilliam is his best friend from highschool that instead of being an overconfident douche is awkward and insecure because of the high expectations his dad had of him ,
his friend being insecure helped squid gain the courage he needed to stand up for both of them and as a result he's got a lot less complexes.
whilst being so insecure squilliam kinda ended up in the friend zone (he's still kinda tryin to get squid to know he likes em more then that tho)

not quite sure what happened to spongeyboy but I'm gonna say at some point he got fed up with being "a simple sponge" and "a child" and he got a bit engulfed in his studies as a teen, losing contact with his best friend patrick and being engulfed into the need of being a perfectionist.
he still works at the krusty krab but he's more of a co-manager being considered actually capable enough for it this time around,
he is exhausted from overworking all the time but he still loves every minute he spends behind the grill.

squidward keeps trying to cheer him up which sponge repeatedly states he "doesn't have time for" but it's hard to stay focused with that tall drink of water constantly in your face.
