always gotta take a step back and draw real people to remember where our muscle bound creations are abstracted from. This is a very nice triumphant piece, definitely very nicely rendered. Check out phillip tan's work, he does an extremely nice job of blending the realistic rendering and comic style so well that it's sickening.....

heheh,..I ll definately post more,....thank you tim, but maybe not everything,LOL, some stuff is just scribbles, like measuring heads tall figures and so forth, but the warts and all type stuff I will soon.

I tend to just post commission and sample stuff because i hope that editors will browse it.

its funny because I would do drawings of ASH in my sketch book from screengrabs. Then I started to notice in my concepts, and rendering of other stuff in my sketchbook, that EVERYBODY started to have these long rectangular heads....I had gotten so used to drawing Bruce Campbell that my proportions started to get wonky.

A lot of times , like the Goldberg, i would just look at photos and stuff to practice likenesses and anatomy.

as soon as i can get to the sketchbooks ( I recently moved) i will put more up. and hopefully too many folks wont laugh...

Fantastic drawing. I love seeing you go looser like this. Theres a lot of energy and this really shows off your pure drawing ability.

wow, thanks man, see thats the thing...I have this weird artistic schizophrenia going on in my head .

Like this piece,( from looking at a photo) was kind of a study in using hatching and straight lines to create tones roughly ( with a slight nod to AH!s tomb raider pencil shading covers that he painted over). But part of me is very envious of more animated stuff with tighter line work, with but with more energy, kinda like Ed Mcguiness, Bengus, or Joemad, but in no way wanting to copy those guys. ( its a respect thing, learn from but dont step on their drawing toes....like i even could.)

My sketchbooks are full of stuff where i try strict likenesses, realistic figure drawing ( and more figure drawing), and techniques like the Goldberg shot...i just am having trouble finding a middle ground or making a decision on which way to go that feels natural to me.

and at the same time, i do realize there's a danger in being wishy washy too....Like Mr.Myagi says " you karate do, or you karate dont. You karate eh..so-so,........Squish! like grape!"

LOL. so Im really a indecisive goof. I've never been one to understand folks who say " i'm gonna use so and so style on this or so and so style on that project" because to me, my drawing skills it feel like something in my being, so that way of doing things is a million miles away from my comfort zone.

sorry I got long winded...long and short of it,...THANK YOU! lol i'm just happy you noticed.

Wishy washy has always been a big problem for me in my personal art. I always want to draw just like the last great artist I looked at. Ive finally found my niche though with that open, more animated style of the like of guys like Cheeks. But I digress. I think its great that your versatile enough to play around like that. There are a lot of decent artists out there with very limited range, one trick ponies if-you-will. Dont ever stop playing around like that. Along the way youll find that you stumble on things that you want to integrate in to your daily work. The more you play the more your work will continue to evolve. So many great artists stop "playing" once they get to a certain point. They know their style so well, theyve drawn every pose imaginable so many time, that they can do it in their sleep....and often do. Its the searchers that continue to stay fresh and vital.

You know what Id like to see? Id like to see you post EVERY page from one of your sketchbooks, even the pages you might not like. I think a lot of folks would get a lot about seeing the thought process, from the good to the bad. I know Id LOVE to see it!
