OH W-O-W!
Joe mentioned he's like to take a stab at some of the MOTU pieces ---specifically Trapjaw and Tri-Klops. Joe just nailed it.
First of all , I Love Inkers. I've been blessed to get the attention of some of my faves and legends in the biz to ink my stuff. Tim Townsend, George Perez, Trevor Scott, Danny Miki, Dexter Vines, Vince Russell, Don Hillsman, Mark Mckenna, ... ..and far more than I ever thought I deserved. ( as well as some incredible up and comers..Diana, Rick, Wakster, Mark...all yous guys know who you are ). I respect the talent and the skill you have to have, the patience to learn and master tool like a quill nib , pen, brush,..how to make those tools give you what you want...I've tried it, I suck at it...LOL
When I collaborate with someone, its all the really a big thrill to see how the give and take goes. How someones hand translates what you put down,...the embellishment, the soul.
I spent my teens just pouring over comics, loving how I could tell the diffs of how maybe John Byrne inked his stuff vs how maybe Bob Mcleod, or Terry Austin would.... thats the magic for me in the art. Most of the time its hit, a few sometimes its miss , in collabs. But that s the beauty of comics..you get to see how this beast and that beast merge to create a totally new monster.
Part of it is communication and I've always been poor at describing what I 'm aiming for. If I ever have to translate what I'm looking for in how I see my linework, this might just be a REALLY good place to start.
...or me with Dex, or Tim....ahhh.... I'm lucky as hell...its so cool!!!!!

Wow such dynamic art and gorgeous inks! The combination of you and Weems is as good as it gets! People need to see art like this to put an end to that colors over pencils garbage that occur in many titles these days. You also really named some of my faves in your inker and penciller lists!

The colors over pencils thing doesn't bother me IF its done right. Sometimes its doen for effect, sometimes because the pencils are done in a complex effect of grays and then sometimes its done for cost cutting....thats when It becomes sketchy.
But yeah, Inkers elevate the material and are just a great example of what makes comics a great medium.

Yeah, didn't mean to imply that it can't be done well. Was amazed to see Kevin Maguire's Defenders pages at a con that had gone straight to color and looked fantastic. For the most part though a lot of the work done in that manner seems to look to sketchy and lacking the beautiful lines of inked work. That just might be by my taste though.

Dang joe knocked it out of the park! I happen to love a lot of those inkers you mentioned! Tim is awesome! I wish I could ink! It really adds to the drawing! AWESOME job both of you!

Wow, even awesome than before!!! My first professional coloring job was over a Joe Weems inked piece. I know the joy of which you speak, my friend. I spent more time poring over the line & brush work. Beautiful stuff.

Joe Weems is an inking god. Whatever that man touches turns to gold. And if it was already gold? Then he polishes it to a shine so bright you it hurts to look at it, but you can't turn away.
Seriously though, this piece is absolutely fantastic. Kudos to you Kevin for giving Joe some gold to work with.

Oh yeah man...Joe Rubinstein, Tom Palmer...i could go on. I was a fiend on reading and seeing all these cool team ups .....I started reading and studying in the late 80's. I was pretty rabid with the marvel stuff. The pencilers I grew up on were Zeck , Byrne, Simonson, Silvestri, Art Adams, Romita Jr, Keown.... I could go on forever.

giordano was my first subconcious influence-then when i got older an knew what an inker was,cockrum,rubenstein,and mcleod were my first inking influences-was lucky enuff to correspond with mcleod an get some tips,critiques,etc-course, it really helped that john beatty was a hop skip an a jump from me an we would work together sometimes to get a tight deadline done-
