For gradual fades I normaly just use a solid color opacity gradient .png... It's really simple but it has a nice effect. If you have image editing software (Photoshop, Corel, GIMP[free] ect.) it's quite easy to do.
Here's the photoshop way (I'm not to familiar with anything else)
Take your base image and crop it so that all that remains is the bottom half (where your reflections are) and add a layer mask (it's a little box with a circle in it) then select the gradient tool and edit the gradient so that both colors are black and one of the opacities are 0. Next select the window next to the layer preview in the layers tab (this is your layer mask) and apply the gradient to the entire height of your cropped image... The full opacity end of the gradient should be at the bottom.
Save as .png and place over the bottom panels with an image meter, no need for alpha input here, the image should already be transparent.
If you need any help just let me know!

Great job, I just started to use "ImageCrop=" it works wonders you should play around with it! It might solve some of your integration issues, maybe throw around some dynamic variables. what would be really work inclusive would be create a matrix on each frame to set the variables. There is a bang "!RainmeterWriteKeyValue" that could be used to make it permanent for each picture. A lot of repetitive coding but do-able.
