Read the newest "I'm My Own Mascot" here: www.kevinbolk.com/comic/mascot…Square is an app that allows you to take credit cards on your iPhone. It's become a pretty handy technology for us at conventions, but I wonder if this might be the next step...especially since Baltimore is practically the panhandling capital of the East Coast.
inb4 folks start bashing the homeless. Please don't. This is a comment on the technology, NOT panhandling. Personally, if I have it I never hesitate to give money to those in need.

Personally, if someone offered for me to pay for something on an APP on their computer, I wouldn't trust it. I'd be too worried about identity/credit card theft.

I went to the Baltimore aquarium when I was younger and there were hobos EVERYWHERE. It was really sad, I wasn't sure what do to since I was there on a school trip and the teachers told us to just ignore them. I ended up giving one of them some left over hot wings though.

I've heard that homeless people are getting cheapo prepaid cellphones, and that people are pissed off about this.

But yeah, Japan does INVENT a good bit of it, but it takes years to get here. They had the wave machine in Japan forty years ago in a theme park called summer land. My mom used to play there as a kid.

Not to bash the homeless. But when I worked at a gas station there was a guy who would drive into the neighboring Walmart in his Roles Royce. Get out dressed like a hobo. And beg on the corner outside my store.
He made more in a day then I made in a week.
He'd get back in his car and go home at the end of the day.

That's why you NEVER give to a roadside beggar, and if YOU ever become homeless, DON'T be a raodside beggar, cause' there's butt holes like ME out there that say don't give em' even a dime. I'm always worried about giving some people money. How would I know they'll use it to get food, or something to keep them warm?
I always assume they'll go for drugs, because around here most of the "homeless" people are actually drug atticts. We had a team fo people actually follow some of these "homeless" people around that we see a lot, and found that they do have homes. Later, we learn from police that some of those "homeless" were caught with drugs in thier home...
I know not all homeless are like that... That's why I only donate to the homeless shelter.

To be fair, when you get to the point of being homeless, drugs are a very good option for staying sane. And the drug dealers are always there to help out on the issue. It's a lot like smoking during a real hard day of work. It's also vicious cycle.
The best alternative to giving a homeless person money is giving them a gift card for a specific eatery nearby. Or a blanket. Real homeless (not pretenders like you mentioned) would appreciate it.

Most real homeless people (atleast where I lived) had more selfrespect to flatout panhandle; I consider most panhandlers to be scammers but there have been times I've given a dollar here and there.
