This comic is based on an encounter I had with an FYE employee when this poor German exchange student was trying to find some industrial music.I'm no music snob, I just think if you're going to work in a music store you ought to know...
Industrial Metal...
...sounds NOTHING...
...like Motown!!
I was waiting for Marvin Gaye to rise from the grave and kick this guys ass. No dice. What a drag.
I ended up helping the cute German chick find the privately-owned local record store near the mall. There she did find some good industrial music. FYE guy was eventually let go (or quit or died, I don't know) so happy endings all 'round.

in my opinion all the people who work at music stores don't know what their talking about unless their stoners because they have nothing better to do than listen to music

Knowing F.Y.E., they would have it. If I'm not mistaken, the group she may have been looking for was Rammstein. Why? I have no other reasons but the fact that they're German and one of the most famous Industrial Metal groups around. They also happen to be my favorite Industrial group. I have no idea what they're saying, but the music is great.

I used to work at an F.Y.E. until they fired me expecting me as a manager to meet sales quotas when I would ring up no more than ten customers a day so there was no possible way I could meet quotas according to their percentages anyway. Since then I've boycotted F.Y.E. and any other Trans World Entertainment (the company that owns F.Y.E.) store such as Suncoast, Sam Goody, and so on.
I'm also against shopping at any Rite-Aid for different reasons. Nevertheless, when I worked there, most people were just thrown in areas of the store with absolutely no knowledge of the store or even much training, so I think the company itself works that way. So in closing, even though this guy might be gone from there, I'm quite sure one very similar will be working there soon.

This reminds me of a time where I was climbing a tree with some friends and this guy said to get out of the tree but he didn't even work here and then he said he was calling the police, whipped out his phone and started dialing.

He's also full of tidbits like: how Techno sounds EXACTLY like Country, how blue looks an awful lot like orange, and star fruit smells just like grapes.

My mother went to an FYE to find a Clark Gable movie (old b&w movies) and she's like "Is he an actor or something?" Look even if you don't know the guy, when asked for "a Clark Gable Movie" one would assume it's an actor.

I feel the German student's pain. Not only are people clueless as to what each genre sounds like, they don't stock what I listen to either
By the by, if she was German (or Austrian, Liechtensteiner, Swiss, ect) would she have been looking for acts like L'Ame Immortelle, Blutengel, Eisbrecher, or the like? If so, she has great taste in music

I was at FYE a few weeks back looking for a gift for my 18-year old sister in college. when the clerk asked what I was looking for I just said I was looking for something for my sis. the first words out of his mouth? "Does your sister like Twilight?" I had to use every muscle in my body not to laugh in his face.

I don't listen to a certain type of music, I just listen to anything I like, whether rap, or pop, or funk, or.....country......so I don't know what F.Y.E means or what Motown is. (Sue me!)

In all seriousness, I have yet to meet three people who should work in music stores, not including myself. I think the count is up toooo...one, yeah one. One time I was in an F.Y.E. and asked where the Billy Idol was and got directed to an American Idol quarter of the store.

the FYE I go to is usually pretty good, but I agree, if you know nothing about music you should not work at a record store, just like you shouldnt be a butcher if you cant properly handle cutlery
