Oh gawd, I've been on a transformers binge as of lately and you're totally fueling it right now!! 
For those who hate on Transformers Prime, I agree that the character design is not that great HOWEVER, the fight scenes are well thought out and the writing is really good and that's what keeps me watching it. I don't think I've seen any other version of Transformers where robots are actually KILLED (aside from the movie from 1986). Despite the 'goofy' designs, the story's quite dark O__o

As for Transformers Prime, for a kid's show it is dark compared to the previous show renditions. I also like the animated series despite its cartoonish look.

You are clueless. Yes this Optimus is based off of the original G1 character, obviously.
Transformers Prime is a tremendous effort by Hasbro in creating one of the most memorable and compelling Transformers series yet. The designs are a great blend of G1, the Bay movies, and Transformers Animated, thus standing on its own as a unique and memorable series. Do you really think the level of detail the Dreamwave and IDW artists put into 18 page comics can carry over successfully into fluid animation?
The show looks great, and it has to be some of the best looking CGI you would ever find in a television series.

memorable as typical BS of the era, Transformers Prime is not that unique either, the animation style is just like Tron Uprising, which also looks just terrible, it the comic book fad that popculture is making every effort to milk dry before moving onto the next fad

moving* and i can't stand when something that was great is used as a tool for profit, like what disney does, they make a good/decent movie, than makes a myriad of brainless, and far inferior, sequels just to rake in the cash, like Atlantis = good, classic, loved it, Atlantis 2: the return of profit = total crap, made of 4 mini episodes of a show that never happened

then you obviously have no idea of the origins, there was the original 6 part mini series, then G1 when they saw it did so well, THEN came the toys
