That's amazing. dA is a good place to find so many inspiring artists.
Good luck with getting your book published.

I saw the interview of you posted on dA. I noticed you said that this photograph had changed your life, and I had to check it out. I must say, I can understand why. Very nice.

What a lovely story and shot...I'm so happy you were able to find your soul within photography at such a young age. It's allowed you to become the true artist you are.

It amazes me that even at the young age of 10, the camera was as much a part of you as it is today...

a good story is hard to find. satisfying.
Same with good photography, and most 10 year olds don't have alterior motives (the wrong desires to take photographs) for taking pictures. While it would seem like an "alterior motive" when you took her picture because you liked her, it really seems that what you liked about her is mostly in the picture, so you're right, it's honest photography on both sides.
And it reminds me in a million ways what it was like to be 10 years old. The girl, the story. Her head is down but she's clearly taller than you.
Did you know much about cameras? how did the photo come to be so well done?

Thank you for seeing and saying all of that....
I knew a decent amount at that point. My father went over how a camera worked with me when he brought it home so long ago. I went through in my mind changing f-stops and shutter speeds. It's funny that I didn't shoot anything before this. Somehow even in my 10 year old brain that shooting the first photo should somehow be meaningful....then I knew on the beach that day that this was it...
Thank you for picking up on the 10yr old mind set. Not that 10 year olds are guileless, but there was something 'higher' in that moment. Like it was a moment that required respect...perhaps even reverence. Strange thinking about that after all this time...
Thank you for getting me to relive that....

so fine, those branchs of our history, we for sure wouldnt be here without those, full beautiful memories, but what your so right about is "paint the same picture" part, the growing child collects so much information, between say 10 an 15 that, its no wonder we have to pick these glory moments, these inspired times, heart felt krushing stand out times, hope the older woman knows what chain of events she sparked, that black an white day. anyhow the paint the same picture bit, i think i know that, i look for certain elements, an for sure sometimes i even dont know, it maybe a glance, a hand placed in anothers lap, green eyes on a sunny day, freckels toasted lightly in midday heat, a man relaxed smoking a large joint after a hard bluecollar days work, who knows we all see our own beauty, take what you can an use it well, love yourself then another. fine work from the childs eye.

Good question....I think she's a Mom now in Pittsburgh. I was in touch with her sister years ago (who starred in "Jason Goes to Hell") and let me in on what was the latest....
I haven't seen her since the year after this....
Those older women....

nice picture
this reminded me of a similar experience i have had.
i also was in a similar situation when i had a crush on someone. She was, i thought, just about the pretiest girl that i have ever seen in my life, but of course there had to be ap roblem. How would i innitiate a conversation with this one person i liked ?
Then i had this idea, i would go to her and ask her if i could have her be in a group picture with some others in the class that we were in (in school). Sadly she turned away and said no, she doesn't like being in pictures :S
Appearently tjhis event left her with the impression that i was the photographing-stalker type who'd probably fill up a little shrine with pictures of her and who knows what other stuff
it was one cruel first experience with the north american continent, since i have had arrived in Canada only 1 yearprior to that and a week before i went on a trip to visit my home land in Europe and i had received the "wonderful" news that my girlfriend liked me no more for the reason that i had gone so far away
well what can i say
life can be strange sometimes
anyways great picture

rather than seeing it as painting the same picture, i like to think of it as coming full circle. like how we make many small circles throughout our lives and come full circle at the end.
