Description Mykonos Island – Greece

The name “pelican” derived from the Greek word pelekys, meaning “axe” and applied to birds that cut wood with their bills or beaks.

I live in Louisiana and our state bird is the pelican. In fact, it's on the State Seal of Louisiana AND on the flag!
