Chapter 2: Rise of the dead part 2
I herd screeching coming from Miss Rosette but all I did was stand staring down in horror, "we have to get out of here" I remembered mumbling. Everyone stared at me whispers passed all around the classroom as they stared. I raced out grabbing Georgia’s arm as I passed.
"Scarlet! What's wrong?!" She called, as I grabbed Miss Rosette's card off her desk and ran out of the room. I herd shouts behind me but I just ran, and finally called back
"About five people just got killed by the front gate! We have to get out of here!" Her face turned as terrified as mine was, I used the key the card had around the key chain to open the cleaners store room.
"What are you doing?" She asked, I rummaged through the supplies to find something that could be used against those walking corpses. At long last I came across a broom, it wasn't going to be amazing but it would do for now. I also managed to find a first aid kit; and some golf balls, it was rather strange to find those but they may come in handy at some point. I found a bag and put everything inside, the bag made no noise at all; it was quiet to say what was inside which shocked me a little. I looked for a few seconds more and noticed a tennis racket and baseball bat, I chose to take them with us;
“Here,” I handed the bag to Georgia “ take care of it, we’re going to find Fenri and J before ‘they’ get to them” I briefly explained.
She nodded slightly before asking,
“Who are ‘they’?” I ran to the door and swiped the card to open it,
“You’ll see, just keep up and watch your back” I replied, she followed and we made our way around the building, I tried to avoid the outside for as long as possible. We got through another door before the announcement
Attention all students. Please follow your teacher’s instructions and evacuate the building. This is not a drill, follow your tea-
The screech of a chair was herd, we stopped dead in our tracks to hear what was coming next.
Stay away from me! Can’t you hear I said stay AWAY!
The chair moved more followed by a deafening scream; I heard the corpses moan as it enjoyed its meal. After that the school went silent, it was so silent you could hear the slightest breath.
“That’s what I was talking about” I sighed. Things where getting worse, they’d reached the school so soon. We have to hurry before it’s too late.
I knew we had to move before the halls flooded with panic and desperation. But my body felt frozen, and couldn’t move. No matter how loud the voice in my head screamed to move, my body refused listen. My heart pounded faster and faster, thumping against my ribs. It felt like any second my heart would break my ribs and smash out of my body. It was all too fast for me to keep up with, my body can’t handle this much panic at once. My body slowly began to thaw; I became calm again and came to my senses. I gathered my thoughts and planned our route carefully, the worst thing we could do is rush in blindly like I was doing not five minutes ago.
“Scarlet?” Georgia’s voice suddenly occurred startling me.
“We have to get out of the way of the-“ before I could finish doors burst open, screams and cries filled the hallways “Damn it..” I mumbled pulling Georgia into an empty room and closing the door, “Now how in hell do we get out! If they go out there they’ll be eaten! And then that’ll make it harder to get out because they’ll be more walking dead-” I paused realising my temper tantrum wasn’t going to help matters.
“Calm down Scarlet, we’ll get out. I’m sure knowing Fenri and J they’ll be thinking of a plan to meet us or something. You know how those two are.” Georgia continually tried to snap me out of my panic and confusion.
I knew what she was saying was true, as soon as they’d herd the announcement those two would be planning a way to meet up as a group, so we could tackle it together.
“I know… I just…just panicked, I don’t want to think of death yet… if were not careful we’ll end up like those things walking around constantly in search of human flesh. It just spooks me to think of what’s happening out there…” I felt Georgia’s hand on my shoulder;
“That’s why we’re going to find the others, work together and get out of here” she smiled confidently, and that was the boost of confidence and reassurance I needed.
“Thanks, I needed a boost. We’ll wait for the crowd to die down and head for science” we waited, it wasn’t long before we herd glass shatter and bones crack, at the end was a screech of pain. We left the room as fast as our legs would carry us, I gripped the broom tightly in my hands.
We advanced into the next block, the halls were empty and an eerie feeling to it.
“This is it, after this we go outside to the science block.” I stood staring down the stairs, looking to the door. Blood was everywhere. It was remarkable how such a thing could happen, and it had taken them only moments to take over the school and use it as their personal feeding ground.
“Are you ready?” Georgia asked, noticing I was still staring at blood stained walls,
“Ready?” I paused and twirled the broom, I felt the panic return. But this time I faced it head on, that fear gave me strength. And that made me ready to take on those shrivelled, rotting, and walking stomachs. “I’m ready. Ready to smash their skulls and truly put an end to them” I rested the broom on my shoulder, it was time to accept our new, messed up future.
