Well... I got kinda inspired by this RWBY Rewrite series called RWBY Alternate. In this context, lets just say Yang and Ruby don't get along...

Also I'd like to preface this by saying I love the original series regardless (Despite Volume 7's short comings)

Its based around the idea that Ruby is the heir of Summer Rose, the greatest hero who ever lived. Because of the fame surrounding her younger sister, Yang had growing up issues where she was often 2nd best when it came to her family life and making friends. She's always looking to one up Ruby by proving how much better she is as a Huntress so that she can be acknowledged. So when Ruby is made the leader of Team RWBY, Yang challenges her little Sister to a duel. What Ruby thinks is a humble sparring match is actually quite the violent battle between the 2 which leaves Ruby badly hurt.

Yeah. It was quite the shocking idea, but I really like the idea of having Yang positioned as a rival to Ruby
