Description
Rain is falling heavily on the other side of side of the glass,
I will have to face it sooner or later,
I leave the noisy cafe and brace for the onslaught.
The rain attacks my head first,
Soon my hair is plastered to my face,
The water seeps into my canvas slip on shoes, they become saturated.
As I squelch down the street I am surrounded by a sea of black umbrellas,
It would be easy to drown in this crowd,
Damn this British weather, why didn't I bring a brolly.
This grey day brings a sense of morbid isolation which is hard to shake off,
By the time I reach the bridge I am drenched from top to toe,
The pelting rain reduces to a drizzle as I start to cross.
My mind turns to home; thoughts of slippers and warming tea,
As I am halfway across and articulated lorry sends a tidal wave my way,
I am miserable once more and put my head down and walk on.
A chill has set into my bones now, I shiver,
I reach the end of the bridge, almost home,
I put my key in the door and just at that moment the sun peeks from behind the clouds.
I have made it.
