Actually, I think it might be quite a bother for him to reach forward to activate it. LOL.

LOL, ARCs are clever, I'm sure he can find a way to bypass that. Maybe a little lever that stretches back to the trigger. Push the lever and it pushes the button on the saber- tada!
Or better yet: I shall invoke the Rule of Cool. Therefore, it works because it is cool.
