Sorry to say but... aw the painful memories of marvel's recent comics such as the infamous ask about my Feminist Agenda cover from Mockingbird8.

Now look before you get you're panties in a twist, let me state that when it comes to feminism in 3rd world/islamic country's (or countrys that suffer some quite some horse shit, like in Germany (all thanks to those alines that come here in europe)) i agree we need them. But first world feminism, no i don't think we need it any more in fact you people have gone way to far with you're reach to the point where men are now being discriminated for their gender and don't even try to back peddle. You know as well as i do that you leftist's have gone way out of hand to the point where communism is becoming many stream again (and we all know how that truned out or should i have to MANsplane ya on how bad it is).

In the end you art is nice and detail and i like what you did with this piece here. But i like to give ya one piece of advice and that is "don't shove your agenda down people's throats"

i hope that you understand where am coming from and please let's discuss this instead of blocking me (thats the chiken's way out and nobody like's a chiken). Anyways this is KM saying god bless freedom of speach (well...what ever is going to be anyways).

That's the thing: They never had a 'feminist agenda'. They were just strong, well-written female characters that communicated the message by simply being what they were. It wasn't necessary to stop the story and invite the audience to stand and applaud as the character explains to them (in a fourth wall-shattering manner) whatever political chip the writer had on his or her shoulder.

I have no problems with social justice in movies. I have a problem with cataclysmically badly-written social justice in movies.

Rule one of life: every group of people, no matter how well-intentioned and how noble its cause, will always attract assholes. They're like mould, they get everywhere.

Rule two of life: negativity and assholes get more press. For evidence of this, see the current President of the United States.

Feminism, as far as I've always understood it, boils down to equality between the sexes and genders (not quite the same thing). Some misunderstand it (some on purpose) to think that it means elevating women over men. It doesn't, any more than Black Lives Matter seeks to elevate black people over everyone else. It's bringing people up to par - i.e. women have historically been discriminated against and disadvantaged, and black lives have historically - and to an extent, still are - seen as having less value.

In short: if you believe men and women are equal, you're a feminist.

Cool, that's the number 1 thing about feminism that pisses me off. Cool.

Feminism is an ideology. I HATE ideologies as a rule.

Like all ideologies, it wants to hold a monopoly on a basic human virtue so it can force you into it's little cult.

It's just like how Christianity doesn't have a monopoly on the Golden Rule, but damn Christianity wants you to think it does so that you have to join it and follow all it's other rules.

What you present is a falsehood with terrible implications. I can believe in equality and not call myself a feminist because feminism does not own the idea of equality. Sorry.

CaptainofVingilot In reply to TheGutterBunny [2017-02-16 06:01:38 +0000 UTC]

... Okay, perhaps a misconception or two here.

The basic tenet of feminism is a belief that men and women are equal. Insofar as I can tell, pretty much any additional beliefs are optional.  It's... oh, how do I put it. One analogy went, if you're a doctor who deals with diseases of the skin, you're a dermatologist. It doesn't matter whether you want to be called a dermatologist or not, you are a dermatologist because you fit the definition.

Feminism is a very broad church, so to speak. In the same way you've got people spouting stuff about the prosperity gospel (which holds that if God likes you, he makes you rich, being rich is a sign of God's love) and yet also extreme ascetics who eschew all physical possessions and luxuries in Christianity, you've got a lot of diverse beliefs within Feminism, some of which are absolutely insane. You've got right wing feminists, left wing feminists, authoritarian feminists, libertarian feminists, Christian feminists, Jewish feminists, Muslim feminists, Hindu feminists, Buddhist feminists, Atheist feminists, Agnostic feminists, Communist feminists, Liberal feminists, Conservative feminists, the list goes on and on. You don't have to hold any of them. You don't have to agree with certain feminists, or even like them - I am no great fan of Lena Dunham, for instance.

It's not an all or nothing thing. It's not like Christianity where believing X also means you are supposed to believe why. Being a Feminist just means holding that basic belief. Anything else is optional.

First off, I'm glad you admit it's a church lol. Second, I realize there are a bunch of denominations that infight and try to soak up  members for their denomination. It's cultish and disgusting. Every last one of them.

How much do you want to bet that if I started calling myself and feminist and gave my honest opinions on everything, I wonder how many feminists would denounce me and say I'm not a feminist? I don't believe in privilege or patriarchy. (Mostly because I don't believe in the concept of satan or original sin and find them morally reprehensible so.)

You don't have to hold any of them. You don't have to agree with certain feminists, or even like them - I am no great fan of Lena Dunham, for instance.

I haven't met a single one of them that I haven't had some problem with. They range from mildly tolerable unbearable cringe queens.

So here's the thing.

1) I have no interest in joining this cult.

2) Considering my attitudes, you don't want me in this cult. Trust me.

3) no, I'm curious? Why do you want me to adopt the title? hm? Nothing will change. My opinions won't change, I'll still hate all this "ask me about my feminist agenda" shit.

I was speaking of a church in the metaphorical sense.

*shrug* That's their business. And how are privilege, patriarchy, and original sin/satan even remotely connected?

Cult? Of all the melodramatic, ridiculous... *sigh*

Because feminist is quite simply the dictionary definition of someone who believes in the equality of men and women.

Eh, there's a difference between feminists and misandrists. Feminists are the few people you meet who are actually chill. Most of the so called "feminists" you've encountered are just sexist and promote misandry.

Radical, misandry-spreading feminists are idiots, but so are radical, misogynistic anti-feminists, because they're both spreading the same thing: Sexism.
