Same way he solves the air problem when opening the door in space. The TARDIS detects a hostile environment on the outside and puts up a forcefield to keep the water from rushing in.

There's a reflective surface missing then, from the sudden change in medium density.
Unless the force field somehow fixes that.

I can and can't see this happening. The Doctor has had a winning streak of gingers for companions. Plus, Ariel is quite adventurous. Though she wouldn't adventure much at her current state because she would be stuck in the TARDIS swimming pool. Although knowing The Doctor he would most likely find a way for her to adventure without being in the ocean or another large water source.... What I just said is probably the most mature thing I have ever said. ._.
