Description SO, another asset for Duality in concept form. S'all a digital painting done in CS4. I had quite abit of fun with this. It looks abit daft in the profile full colour, because it's non-perspective, but thats because I plan to model it. So hopefully peeps can overlook that.

Either you're interested in Duality assets, or you find them boring. In the case of the latter, I apologise. lol. If you do find them interesting, then read on.

In order to get a good solid feel for the word, I've begun creating 3D assets that will be re-used to create a consistent world. What I mean by that is, The detail per panel is going to be as beautiful as I can get it. 3D assets let me have stunningly detailed and gorgeous backgrounds for every single panel. If I was doing it in 2D alone, the backgrounds would suffer.
This is the front portion of a train we plan to base a few acts around. I'm not going into it much, as we still haven't got much in the way of a script. But we thought that a bank robbery and get-away would be all the more awesome if instead of cars, it was a train that laid it's own rails and pulled them up behind it as it went.

SO there it is. A self-laying railway train. In full Steam-punky awesomeness.

Hopefully this gives alittle more insight into the world we plan to create. Hope you guys like it~!

There is no way a locomotive that makes it's own rails would work it's technically not a locomotive it's just a steam tank without a gun abd the caterpillar tracks fall of once they pass the last tracks there are examples of railless steam locomotives like a traction engine or a ice engine but a locomotive that still needs tracks, but it makes them as it chugs along that's just stupid how about on that makes it's own track that reueses them here's how it would work: it takes up the pice of track behind it, and puts it infront of it and only uses two tracks it could be a railmotor because of the fuction of it no cars could be traveling behind the locomotive

This locomotive is neat, however it would not actually work. The piston and valve are in opposite locations (Cylinders would go to the end and just stop), the cowcatcher on such a small connection would end up everywhere if it was used, the front driver wheels (behind cylinder) has no connecting rod, rendering it unpowered, there is no tender to carry water and fuel, and it doesnt appear to be a tank loco, and the lead wheels wouldn't work (actually they would derail easier) because they are so much bigger than the drive wheels (high speed & sharp curves would cause it to jump over because of the increased wheel:rail ratio due to higher center of gravity). Despite the mechanical flaws, I like it's look and overall style and I find it an interesting comparison to the typical 2-8-0. Looks awesome! (I'd get that lead truck looked a though if you plan to model it!)

there was such a thing but it was just a trolley car

A trolley car isn't a thing. A streetcar is a thing, an interurban is a thing, but "Trolley" actually refers to the overhead wire they use for power, hence the name "Trolley Pole","Trolley catcher/retriever", and other parts related to collection of the car's power. Also, "Just" a trolley car is really under appreciative of what an interurban or streetcar is Interurbans run on their own lines (None of this steam-replacing stuff now) typically between the early 1900s to the depression, serving as a normal passenger train, but with a stop chord for people's houses. A streetcar is like a city bus, but on track and 100% electric. They both have air compressors (exept the 1890's streetcars) for whistles and in some cases to assist the motorman's footgong. The footgong is like a quieter version of the whistle, not a "Steam" bell that rings until they leave the yard.

My post was over a year old. I know all of that, and I knew all of it but the proper name thing even then.
The point was it was a one off streetcar no train.

a streetcar is a train (Cleveland even had MU trains of them!)

But a one off streetcar can not be a train, a train by definition is more than one unit.
The engraving looked like the body of a 2 axle streetcar mated with a primitive continuous track system.

Cleveland, New York, San Francisco, Dallas, Chicago, and many other cities had multiple streetcars coupled together quite frequently.

Yes I know that but if you have just one..........................................................................

Β What are you going to pull a horse cart with it just to make a train?

There was one prototype it was not part of an interurban it would have been a competitor.

Happy Birthday!

actually Interurbans rarely ran single cars.

Kharnage In reply to austin57 [2011-01-10 09:24:37 +0000 UTC]

Well it's going to be in my own comic, so I guess you can use the idea of it, as in a train that can go where it wants, but as for this specific train, I dunno if that would throw up legal issues when I come to publish my comic.

It's a minefield!

i meant just the look of the train not how it works and all but in my book it would work on steam power
