Merry Christmas, ~gilrandir : you know I'm missing you.

Note: I tried making the paper turn into birds, by emphasizing the bird's "fakeness" (hence the irregular and funny-lookin' wings). I don't think it worked.... it looks more like I messed up bird-anatomy.

I CLAIM NO CREDIT FOR THE FOLLOWING POEM: it is entirely the work of my (genius) friend, and is the inspiration for the christmas present I've drawn for her. And I'm posting it, simply because she needs more recognition for her work, dammit. X)

A/N: The first two stanzas have been with me ever since summer vacation (Shiehan, remember that "Queen of the rusted wires/King of the pots and pans" thing? Yeah. And that came from me finding a rusted wire bent and tied into a circle, and I "crowned" myself with it. XD) But somehow I couldn't actually develop the rest of it till the last couple days. So yeah. And the first three stanzas do have meaning, but I won't bother anyone by going into it here as it's kinda boring and rather odd. The rest of it... just weirdity.

Crowned with rusty wires,
The King of Boxes rules;
Atop a throne of cardboard,
He sits, and thinks, and broods.

All around his person,
As far as eyes can see,
Empty beyond reason
Stretch tiles of ivory.

Above his head no ceiling;
A vast ebony void,
A taste of the eternal
By stars and moons unspoilt.

He listens to the twilight,
He reaches out to air,
He chants a verse monotonous
Of syllables and stares.

Blind, he grasps for meanings,
For images and words,
Knowing not the symbols
He's spoken and he's heard.

Though his mind be sundered
And his hoary beard unkempt,
His restless hands have power 'nough
To shape the firmament.

For he's the King of Boxes,
The Monarch of the Mind,
His voice rings out untrammeled,
His sightless eyes are kind.

He safeguards and dispenses
All that befits a muse,
For he's the King of Boxes,
Inside my mind he rules.
