Description
Here is another of my old drawings. The original is very large and I just finally got a good scan of it. It is meant to be the mate to the Out of Naboo drawing I have already submitted. I drew it on Bienfang drawing papers.The reference for Luke was found in a book about the Mythology of Star Wars and the Anakin picture came off of the cover of a journal about him
Star Wars and all characters belong to George Lucas and not me!

To be honest, when I saw this in thumbnail form, I thought it looked odd, but the portraits are brilliant, the shadows, the realistic hair and lips, and the light in the eyes. My one problem, would be that Anakin doesn't fit into the scene. What should be a very striking portrait of Luke, is slightly spoiled by Anakin, but I'm torn because the portrait of Anakin is so good. Everything about your drawing is fantastic, its simply a layout difficulty. Did I mention that Luke's clothes look great?

Thanks! I was really wanting to portray Anakin as a more shadowy figure in the picture. Unfortunately, I shaded him too darkly where he does stick out a bit!

I think to be honest, the problem is that most illustration, especially in Star Wars, is based on the Drew Struzan look, where all the cast members' portraits are shown grouped around the page. It looks good, but it influences good artists into thinking that the only way they can have a half decent drawing, is if they do the same, so instead of seeing great original artworks, we see the same layout time after time. I'd rather see Star Wars art change to show scenes from the film, than see this formula repeated. Wouldn't you?

I definitely think people should try not to be too formulatic and should try to do their own thing. That being said, if I could draw like Drew Struzan I wouldn't spend my days working in an office

Thinking about, I actually rip off Alphonse Mucha. He is one of the most copied artists in history. I have no right to make that kind of judgement.

By the way, I didn't mean this as a criticism of all your drawings, as most of them depict scenes from the films anyway. The problem is not your portraits. I need to stop saying "to be honest" with every comment as well.

Very good! Although looking at your more recent works, there's a definite improval. I've tried to draw Luke a few times and never managed, but you did really well here! I love the hair, both Luke's and Anakin's. Nice one!

Thank you! I believe Mark Hamill is one of the most difficult people to draw. His likeness is so hard to capture. I really think I made his nose too short in this one, but I like how Jake looked!
