Description
A distant snap drew everyone's attention. Followed by the sound of startled nesting birds taking flight.
"We must go...Lockjaw is near! he must've smelled the lizard carcases" Ahren said.
"They were just killed..how could it smell..."
"Lockjaw can!" Ahren insisted cutting off Seline.
"We must go with the wind to carry our scent away from him." Ahren said as she pointed the way.
The ground trembled and a nearby tree snapped.
"Run," Ahren exclaimed as everyone finally took her advice.
Something huge burst from the nearby foliage and Jubil made the mistake of looking back.
Jubil was familiar with the stories of dragons that once lived in the land, this wasn't that. The beast was huge with six inch teeth designed for biting, massive jaws and forward facing eyes.
Lockjaw saw them, opened its mouth but did not roar like Jubil expected. Instead a strong rumbling sound that vibrated Jubil's chest 50 feet away came from its mouth.
"We're Dead!" Jubil yelped as they could all hear it starting to give chase.
Its large legs quickly let it close the distance, and Jubil could swear he smelt it's breath.
Realizing running was futile, Seline did the only thing she could think of... she stopped running at turned to face it.
"Feed!" she commanded pointing at the lizard corpses. Seline's voice vibrated and was deeper than normal.
Lockjaw stared down at her, and shook its head looking over to the lizardmen bodies now gathering flies. It took a hesitant step toward Seline. Then turned and went to feasting on the easy meal available.
The others had stopped as well some fifty feet from Seline and both stared in awe.
