You took a really good picture of the fox.
I didn't know that red foxes could have silver morphs, it's beautiful.

Oh..are they on farms? Tell me they are not bred for skins????

KIARAsART In reply to brunette-from-oz [2010-02-20 14:53:03 +0000 UTC]
Yes, sadly they are breed for their skin. These are the facts: "Worldwide, over 40 million mink and fox pelts
are produced on fur farms _each year_, equaling the wild-caught production. In addition, chinchilla, fitch, nutria and other furbearers are raised in smaller numbers, while some countries produce large quantities of pelts from sheep, goats and rabbits as a valuable by-product of meat production." (from "Fur Facts" by Fur Commission USA --> [link] )
40 million fox and mink yeach year! And although some people state that they are kept under healthy conditions, they lack the prove of it. The most of these farms are a hell to life and die at. The worst market I know is still China, where the animals are not even properly killed before they are skinned. There are terrible videos on the net showing reality
The ancestors of the young fox in my picture had once been from a fur farm, too. Luckyly they can live and grow up in a zoo now
