getting back into the habit of doing warm-up drawings, the key bit being it doesn't have to be anything, otherwise ocd kicks in. ive got a page going with umbrellas on it, so this was just a study- it turns out umbrellas are hella tricky.Related content

Ugh...dude you make me sick with that right hand!! I gotta go draw like a million hands now so I feel better...For real though, one of the things I notice almost every time I see you work is you always draw really well drawn hands in interesting, natural positions.

I like the shading and I like the umbrella. They really aren't the easiest things to draw, umbrellas. It's also pretty cool that you have managed to convey enough of a sense of gravity, that I instinctively thought on the lines of "her hand is going to start hurting pretty soon if she keeps it like that!"
I also like how this looks like it could be an illustration from the New Yorker, but that's not really a comment on your work, its more a comment on my breakfast-time reading habits and the fact that I haven eaten yet!

oh no, umbrellas are a bitch, this was a practice for other umbrellas. a month ago i woulda said theyre the worst, cept now im struggling with helmets. i love those new yorker cartoons, thats an "aw shucks" compliment, but for real, you can surf and mange at the same time.

I'm not sure I have ever had to draw an umbrella. It's gotta be a SoCal thing where it's 80 degrees in january and we don't have real weather, but either way I'm really enjoying these warm-up drawings, please keep it up!

funny, yeah, i lived in carlsbad for a few years- even though i rode the bus to work, and bought an umbrella for just-in-case, it was never used. but glad you like sir! tho now that people seem to be responding, i have to cop to feeling a bit of pressure, dont think i can call em warm ups anymore......

I remember those. Our professor would have us do anything from a 5 second to 10 minute sketches to warm up our minds and hands. Sometimes I did my loosest and best drawings that way. Very nice indeed.

thanksyou. yeah, that kind of exercise is good for you, i remember being stunned that it was possible to even get something down that fast- guess compared to that this was pretty slow going.

Yeah, my professor said that it was all in the form. I miss those days. You're "warm up" is really nice. It doesn't matter how long it took you.
By the way, do you ever make it up to the NYC area for shows? Or take commission requests?

unfortunately i have a pretty healthy list of unfinished commissions....and havent been to nyc in a few years, both situations kind of driving me crazy. ill post about commissions if i get my list wrapped before heroescon, or if i can make it to NYCC. thanks for asking tho, sorry to disappoint.

yeah, i cant recommend it enough, but it is a luxury to find that time. either way sir, tho i know its hard to do so, remember drawing is supposed to be fun.
