Portfolio pieceIt's a good time to post this too, with Easter coming up.
Done in black ink, with water to make the lighter shades.
I always have trouble drawing Jesus; He's too perfect to draw or paint... perfectly.

this is really beautiful. i agree with what you said about Jesus being too perfect to draw- one thing though... no one really knows what he really looks like, so instead of trying to draw what everyone assumes he looks like, perhaps draw from the heart, your interpretation?

p.s. ever wonder who came up with the idea that eggs and bunnies should represent Easter? Itβs cute, but it doesnβt make sense... bunnies donβt lay eggs... ^^

This is so amazing and touching. This is true Easter, not the brightly colored eggs or the candy bunny rabbits. I think we often get so distracted by those that we dont think about hte real thing.

When thinking about those nails my mind roams back to the first time I read "Being a Green Mother" by Piers Anthony. Awesome series (Incarnations of Immortality) if you have never read it.
Anyway, as part of that book (and I've never researched to find out if the author made this up, or used mythology / real stories for the material) there is a story concerning the gypsies, or Romani.
The story, in extreme summation, says that the original one of them ended up trying to make the 4th nail for Jesus' cross for a cheap price, even being warned by prior ghosts of those killed by the soldiers trying to obtain the nails. The soldiers fled with the three nails to crucify Jesus, but the 4th nail returned again and again to the Gypsy and his offspring, always red hot, and accompanied by the ghosts of those crying for why the nail was created. Which is why the Romani never settled, and are constant wanderers, forever fleeing from that 4th nail.

I take this time of year very seriously. It's what his life was all about. And man is living free awesome. 8D I gotta say I am LOVING the shadows in the nail and hammer here. I think the image of Jesus himself looks good. If I might add, I believe the crown of thorns could use some more fine detail to give it that "twig" look. Otherwise, a good piece, worthy of a portfolio. This is most win.

I always love Easter pics like this, not eggs and bunny's with huge eyes and candy candy candy (which is pretty yummy XD)but THIS, this is what Easter is all about!
