Description RP!Dib: All right. I made KidK draw this, so I'm describing it. It's, obviously, a reference to Orwell's "Animal Farm," parodied to fit with our self-appointed values dictator's happy little way of trying to make it impossible for people who aren't like him to have any kind of rights in this country. Amend the Constitution to protect the sanctity of marriage my *^&. ยฌ.ยฌ And meanwhile he proclaims the spreading of American freedom all over the world! Hypocrisy at its best, ladies and gentlemen... So yes. I want to paint a wall like that. Or better yet, go find the Constitution and write it on *that*. That's what they mean, so it may as well just be said plain.

=B; This is my first time posting anything actually political online! Oh my, I DO hope I get flamed by radical Conservative wackos! Oh and if you don't get the reference about a barn having 'commandments' (in this case, amendments) painted on it, READ "ANIMAL FARM." It's about Communism, but...it serves here, as well...

Bit by bit the original constitution is corrupted and perverted and animal memories are imperfect, so few,if ANY, suspect anything dark....

Dib, animal Farm, and gay rights? connection missing here

Copypasta'd from my answer to the comment below yours:

Ah, it was just meant as an extension of the theme of the quote. I'm aware that the book is about the rise of communism in Russia and that the quote refers to the hypocrisy of Russian communists--especially their leadership--in stating that "All are equal" and "All are comrades" and such while promoting a patently unequal regime. The point of using the quote in the picture and relating it to gay rights is that many Americans--including many in leadership positions--vocally espouse the "American ideals" of equality and freedom, while at the same time promoting unequal treatment of homosexual individuals. So no, not exactly the same context, you're right! But, back when I drew this, I saw a parallel there.

As for what Dib has to do with it, he really doesn't apart from the fact that I've roleplayed a version of Dib as being a college student pissed off at hypocrisy in government on several issues.* That version is the one in the picture. *shrug*

tl;dr explanation, but I honestly apologize if anything in the picture may have offended you.

*I dunno, I thought it was an interesting thing to do with the character since he is rather an 'outsider' and promoter of logic and free thinking. So I thought such a character might get annoyed with what he perceived as people in power being illogical and such. He was still totally into paranormal things as well, I just thought I'd round him out a lil' for a more detailed RP world.

how does dib and a skewed quote from a book that is an allegory on the russian revolution have anything to do with gay rights

Great my man.

From Britain myself- and we already have gay 'marriage' (It's just called a 'civil partenership'- don't ask me WHY).

I think its pretty weird that they have to put gay rights to a VOTE in America- surely there should be no question about giving them at all? Isn't it obvious that it should be 'yes' to equal rights? Aren't they human beings?

Geez.

Great pic. Go Dib!

......Amen there. I don't understand how people can misunderstand things like the Bible and stuff like that. It's horrible. God hates NONE of His children, no matter what their sexual preference is, and those people who call themselves good followers of God and do things like that are just...effing ignorant SINNERS. That's right, sinners. Hypocrites. Because saying things like that sure makes one a better follower of God, doesn't it? Damn fooking people like that. Damn them all. It doesn't MATTER what your sexual preference is.

Love is beautiful, no matter WHAT. God is LOVE, people. God is LOVE. By blocking out ANY kind of LOVE and calling it a SIN, you ARE in fact, sinning. ANY love is GOD. And if you shun love, you shun God.

.....Good Christians my ass.

Great picture. Dib...you are very wise. We've much to learn from you.

...And wow I kind of went on a tangent. ;;;

No flames from this corner! (Sorry to disappoint you. )

Animal Farm was intended as a satire specifically directed at Communism, but even after Communism has been largely discredited, the book remains every bit as relevant as it ever was... which boosts it even higher into the ranks of Great Literature.

Did you ever see the British made Halas and Bachelor animated version? It adds an ending which goes just a little bit farther than the book does, but which makes perfect sense!

Yep, Dib is very much the sort of person who speaks the truth even when he gets flack for it, so he'd make one hell of a terrific activist.

I still don't see Dib as gay; what he is is politically aware! In Pastor Martin Niemoller's words, "First they came for the Jews and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the Communists and the trade unionists and the gays, and I didn't speak up. Then they came for me, and by then, nobody was left to speak up for me."

Thank you very much for kick starting a political discussion here of all places!

Personal note:

When I first noticed those gender symbols, I thought the drawing was about something else until I took a closer look.

It seems that most fanart and most fanfics are produced by girls and women. When I see the horrific way Gaz treats Dib in these works... savagely brutalizing him without any mercy whatsoever for trifles, and all the feedback just worships her for it, personally I sarcastically think, "XX good, XY bad." (In case anybody reading this doesn't know what those letters indicate, girls have two X chromosomes and boys have an X and a Y.)

Standing up for yourself is all well and good, but Gaz goes way, WAY too far with it... and just because she and I are both girls doesn't mean I'm going to say she's right in treating Dib the way she does.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

KidKourage In reply to Dibsthe1 [2005-07-24 01:20:44 +0000 UTC]

^.^ Lotsa good thoughts here. I absolutely love the book Animal Farm and so does the Dibbish headvoice in mah head, so that's why when we had to reread it for a class last year he made me draw this pic. Never did see the animated version, but I did catch a sort of 'live action meets computers' version on TV years ago. Don't remember much about it, but then, I've always preferred books to movies.

Yes, you're spot on--Dib (my Dib anyway, no offense to anybody else's Dib =O!!) isn't gay, he IS just politically aware. u.u Marriage rights for everybody is one of his big causes he'll get all hyper and loud about if it's brought up around him.

That's an interesting take on the Dib and Gaz relationship and the way it's portrayed, there. I never really thought about it, but now that I have, you're kind of right. But then, Gaz is awfully violent toward her brother in the show as well, so fanworks could just be exaggerations of that. Still, something to think about.

Thanks for the comment!

. . . ^_^ DIBBY-SAAAAAAAAAAAAN! ^_____________________^

This comment be to both of you.

I saw the quote on the wall, went 'O.O ANIMAL FARM! WHEET!' (Awesome allegory, but really, we shouldn't have read that instead of finishing Shakespeare . . . of course, had my bloody class been SMART. -.-' We coulda done both.)

Poor Boxer, though.

ANYways. This is very great. Like Dib-san's height. o.o'''' Which is the second thing I noticed, after the quote.

Very, very nice message here. I mean. One of the first things America was founded on was freedom of religion, and therefore, separation of Church from State! o.รณ INCLUDING THE BIBLE IN A REASON OF NOT ALLOWING HOMOSEXUALS TO MARRY IS VERY MUCH NOT SEPARATION! I mean, I'm not a total Bush-basher, a'cause that's not politically good, not a good reason. 'Buhs looks liek a munkey.'

But the main things I was concerned about was getting out of the war, what to do about Israel (it's the Jew in me.), and homosexual rights!

GET A LIFE, BUSH! THEY'RE PERSECUTED ENOUGH AS IT IS! AIDS IS NOT A CURE, MORONS!!!!!

. . . *cough* u.u Thank you for your time. Once more, KidK-san your art is awesomely, and Dib-san is tall, an- . . . o.o Is that a new face on your shirt?

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

KidKourage In reply to Bakurakrazie [2005-02-11 00:00:55 +0000 UTC]

He HAS gotten tall. XD He's like my height now, I think about...mebbe just a lil' bit shorter and he's STILL GROWING. Well, he's male, what did I expect? u.u; He'll probably get to be 6 foot before it's all over. Remember, canon-Dib was pretty darned tall in "Dib's Wonderful Life of Doom." And yes, he's got a pissyface shirt now in addition to his usual blankface one. ^-^ He's an angry, angry boy.

I'm glad that you got the reference without the explanation. The book is such a lovely thing...and I am also glad that you agree that one man's religious values shouldn't be used to govern an entire nation of people. Separation, yes. That is the very First Amendment. And anyway, persecuting people goes very much against the true essence of Christianity as I understand it (though I am not Christian). The quotes from the Bible against homosexuality are all in the Old Testament, and it seems that our leaders have decided to focus in on them instead of listening to the words of the man they consider their Lord and Savior.

Bakurakrazie In reply to KidKourage [2005-02-11 01:12:36 +0000 UTC]

YES! The ONLY quote I have seen concerning it is, 'Man shall not lie down with another man as he would a woman.'

HOW THE ZARK DOES THAT TRANSLATE TO G-D HATES ALL HOMOSEXUALS?! o.o

^_^ Have either of you seen my thing in my scrap gallery? The photo one? u.u You should see it. It's loff and fun. =B And I am dork.

v.v And I completely agree with what you wrote in the Description box. It's ridiculous, the things he says sometimes.

if i had the rescources and i wasnt so lazy, i'd try to take over the country. non-violently too. that'd REALLY make them mad. someone got their point across without blowing anything up! *mock shocked gasp*

I remember Animal Farm alright. One of the few worthwhile reads in Junior English. Actually...only one. Didn't think it was terribly good, but it was some good sociopolitical commentary. Watched the cartoon in class too. That one was even worse (sorta like the Great Gatsby and the corresponding movie-I didn't much like those either).

I see where you're coming from, although most people won't get it, I don't think. That, or they'll flame you so relentlessly you'll regret saying you hope some conservative flames your ass. Trust me. People are capable of anything, if they let the old sheep mindset get to them. Or the old mindset that makes them say out loud that they want good government and equal rights for everybody and all that crap but all they really want is for their life to be the same from day to day. It's why people don't vote so much these days. Oh sure, plenty of them vote, but not all of them. Because they figure it'll all go away if they ignore it. Of course when it stays in the pisser they can't complain because they didn't vote, but they do anyway.

Y'know, in Australia people get fined for not voting. Y'know why that's never going to happen here? Not enough people are going to vote for it. Ironic, isn't it?

The really ironic thing is, probably everyone's going to vote if they really do try to pass an amendment saying people born outside the US can become president, so that Arnie gets a shot. Then we can be the "You-ny-ted Stets of Ah-mey-ree-ka" for eight years.

I'm done sounding cynical now. Usually I'm more upbeat.

But...I don't mind flames. ^.^; They make me laugh because I don't take them seriously. ...sheep-mindset in the America Farm, indeed.
