I use craft acrylic paints... y'know, those little dollar tubes of paint for craft projects, they mix well and are thin enough to coat a munny without building up a thick layer of paint that will mess with their arms and head.

I think they're worth it.
I used Craft Acrylic paint, the ones in those little tubes that are meant for craft projects so that stuff is pretty much made for junk like this.
