Ash.

Gian’s eyes watered, his lungs burned. By luck they seemed to avoid the flame, but the smoke and ash posed a serious threat in their journey. His hand rubbed his temples, futilely attempting to ward an every growing headache. The sky was dark – but surely it was still mid day? Eyes strained as he glanced behind at a barely visible red orb. Surely that was the sun?

Anouk seemed more impervious to the smoke and ash, although the creature seemed nervous. While she did enjoy their occasional trips, this was by far the longest she had ever traveled. Echos of giants loomed before them, their hollow trunks now fragile tombstones. The Tokota worried about her flock, worried about herself, worried about her handler. Surely this grey had to end…

I always love drawing Anouk! I wanted to take the challenge of drawing my usually brightest and most colourful Tokota in a very grey monotone scene. It was definitely not easy, but I had a lot of fun making it! The forest fires here have been a lot of motivation as well (my eyes hurt QQ). Any ways, now I have the urge to do an insanely colourful and crazy final rite image for her >: D We shall see...
