Description something i did a while back for the benefit of some of my dragon-drawing buddies. only just now got the chance to post it.

i've put a lot of thinking into this skeleton, in particular giving it a keel for the flight muscles to attach to and working out the tricky part about articulating the wings with the shoulder blades. i also made the wingspan great enough that this dragon would be capable of flight, according to the laws of aerodynamics.

the upshot of all that is i am pretty confident that i have engineered a dragon skeleton that could actually work according to the laws of nature.

i'm starting to make a collection of helpful diagrams that may eventually morph into a tutorial. so far, all i've got is the front legs, but that's liable to change whenever i have time to do non-college-related things.

shoulders and chest

not bad, kiddo.

their tails struck me as a little bit short, but that could just be because i tend to draw dragons with...almost ridiculously long tails.

hmm. well, the best advice i can give (what helped me the most, anyway) is to look online for pictures. download the ones you think look the best and try to identify what exactly it is you like about them. also, look for photographs of animals that show the kinds of traits you want in your dragons. for example, my dragons tend to have very catlike poses, although i've got at least one that people think has a wolflike pose. another good thing to do is look in animal anatomy textbooks and stuff.

would you like to see the wolflike one?

body-wise, it's rather similar to the two you've drawn.

I like it also...to me wingless ones are faster on land then winged ones...

I think you did a remarkable job finding a way to articulate the wings.
