Description In the Futurama episode titled "Parasites Lost," we were introduced to the holophonor, a futuristic clarinet-like musical instrument that can project holographic images in mid-air that Philip Fry uses to impress Leela.  Here, in Fry's apartment, having finally mastered this most difficult of musical instruments, Fry entertains an enchanted Leela with his one-man holophonor/Ice Capades concerto.  Perhaps Fry will get "lucky" tonight.  We can only hope.  (Medium: pen and ink, Copic color pens, watercolor, airbrush).
Futurama (C) 20th Century Fox and Matt Groening.

Thank you for your praise of my art.  As for your question about why I put four fingers on these characters instead of the usual three according to canon, well truth be told, I just don't like three-fingered cartoon characters so I try to make their hands as close to normal looking as I can.  Thank you for your comment.

My goodness, almost from the time I was old enough to hold a pencil and start drawing stick figures.  Altogether, I guess I've been drawing over 50 years.  During my seven year stint in the Army, I took art classes which sharpened my skills and improved my talent and technique.  Apart from art I also enjoy music and playing the accordion.

Yes, I've painted.  I also work occasionally with airbrush.  But mostly I like to do pics of my favorite cartoon ladies as well as my OCs in pen and ink and color them with Copic brand color markers.  As for my favorite musical artists, you can find them listed on my profile.  However, a short list; classic rock 'n roll such as the Rolling Stones and Buddy Holly (and all the other classic rock 'n roll oldies that I grew up with).  I'm also half Cajun so I dig Cajun and zydeco music.  I'm also fond of classical music by composers such as Mozart, Beethoven and Wagner.  And I especially love polka music.

You're quite right in guessing the decade I was born in.  My date of birth is October 8, 1954.  As for Copic color markers, yes, they are expensive.  Fortunately, I've saved up a goodly amount in my bank account plus I receive a generous veteran's pension from the VA.  Let's pick up this conversation tomorrow, shall we?  Then I could, perhaps, learn a little about you.  I've taken a quick look at your DA site and have seen that you're a writer, which is fine.  Writing is also an art form.

I love this couple which makes me hate they waited so long to put them together.  Fry is not smart but supportive, loyal, and willing to make the big sacrifices and perfectly happy having a woman that can kick his ass ten different ways to sunday. Lila is a strong powerful woman in every sense of the word but still very feminine, caring, and take responsibility for her actions.

Great work, kiff. I rememeber that episode well. Did you see Lisa playing the holophone on the Simpsons/Futurama crossover episode?

Yes, I did.  I also saw Meg play Lisa's saxophone so well that Lisa got jealous, n'yuk, n'yuk, n'yuk!  Thanks for your comment.

I believe you're right.  They also had a Simpsons/Futurama crossover.  Yep, it seems Fox's well of ideas is starting to run dry.

That is a really unique, neat picture of Leela. You seem like you're able to add something to her that no one else seems to capture.

kiff57krocker In reply to Gulliver63 [2015-02-04 14:43:44 +0000 UTC]

Really?  No one else has ever described my art in that way before.  But I'll take it!  I took a little inspiration from your art by dressing Leela in shorts and sandals rather than her usual boots and stretch pants.  And thank you kindly.

No problem. That's why I did pictures like gulliver63.deviantart.com/art/… just to have her bumming around on a day off.

It's kind of hard to imagine Leela doing mundane chores like laundry.  Still, I like your casual look for her, which is what I also wanted for my latest pic.  Also, it gave me a chance to portray Fry and Leela as a figure skating duo which, I believe, no one else to my knowledge has ever done before.

You've at least got a fair shot at finding that original thing with those guys; just about everything in the universe has been done in the Simpsons ::chuckles::
