Not done yet but I still wanted to post.Things I plan to add
1) Paint More Fish
2) His necklace
3) Fix his hair a bit
Truths about this painting
1) This image was painted with this picture of Colton Hayes as a reference --> shechive.files.wordpress.com/2… , however I did paint this from scratch, if you need proof of my process, then ask (I mean seriously, if you look close enough you can obviously tell that it was painted download it and check it out for yourself)
2) The awesome "lighting" everyone talks about was all due to some adjustments through shit loads of textures and adjusting the "levels" on photoshop. I had originally had painted it with different colors but adjusted Percy to look like he was under water

3) The fish were indeed painted by myself (a very LONG and painful process, actually if you look close at the clown fish you'd notice he doesn't have a fin yet)
4) Logo wasn't done by hand, I took it off from another's deviant account but it seems it has been deactivated? If anyone can find a link, I'd appreciate it (:

Anyway this is not exactly how I'd imagine Percy to look in his late teens but it's as close as it's going to get. And hey! It was a lot of fun to do. I kept seeing all these realistic digital artworks on deviantart and thought, "hey, why not give it a shot?" So here's my Percy Jackson fanart and hope you guys like it! I'll update it again when finals are over
Next one will probably be Annabeth so stay tuned to check it out!
RESPONSE TO COMMENTS
First of all I'd like to say thanks to everyone on your feedback! I'm really glad to know that a lot of you guys enjoyed it! You know, when first attempting to paint this, I was contemplating what type of facial expression I should have given him. I also felt like I should give him a smirk because he is our witty little jackson but then decided a serious face was fine because it makes the picture more intense. But now after many critiques and suggestions from other deviants, I think I'll try to change his expression into a little more smirky and playful. It will be a bitch to redo the painting, but I think it will be worth it. So stay tuned for a changed facial expression and more addition of fish!
And 's idea on adding a creepy shark in the background sounds interesting! I also was thinking I might try to add a hippocampus in it or just do a completely full body painting with Percy and Annabeth ridding one. Give me more of your thoughts and thanks for the ones so far!

Overall, wonderfully done. However, there are a few things that bug me...
He's Percy Jackson. He should, therefore, be smirking, or wear his casual lopsided grin. It would make him slightly more recognizable (not that he isn't already, of course).
His eye color is slightly off. I always sort of pictured it a more greenish color, like the ocean off the Florida coast, rather than the light blue of Caribbean Island waters. But meh. To each his own.
Then a few even more insignificant complaints - 1.) his shoulders are kinda pointy. (The left one, esp.) 2.) His skin could look a little more bronzed, like he spends a lot of time on the water. Granted, he is underwater, where the light is dappled and weak, but still... 3.) Make his shirt more suspended in the water? 4.) Obviously, he is in want of a beaded necklace. 5.) Give him some facial wrinkles? I mean, not like an old guy. More like the wrinkles you get from tanning or working out or having a very expressive face. Around the eyes, mouth and chin esp.
Now for what love:
The structure of his face is very Greek, very distinct, and very approriate considering his heritage and life. He couldn't be anything but Percy Jackson, Greek demigod son of Posiedon. It's very distinct. That's particularly clear in the jaw line, nose shape, and heavy eyebrows. Not to mention the wild but perfectly curled (and colored) hair.
The dappled light is wonderfully textured.
The t-shirt's color contrast really gives a sense of depth, both spacially and tonally. Good work on that. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="
I think the number of fish there is just fine. Too many more and it would be aclutter and seem unlikely. (In other words, Why would so many fish gather around him?) Oh, and I love the bubbles. They're fun. e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="

Thank you so much for the review! After reading your critique I'm now convinced I should change his facial expression. As for the shirt, I made it tight on him so it accentuates his build more and since it is tight, I don't think there would be much "suspending effect". Necklace is a must and I want to add a few more fishes and finish the clown fish (if you look closely it doesn't even have a fin yet). As for the eyes, I originally painted them that color but I used photoshop to tweak the colors to make it look like he was submersed under water given that underwater a lot of color gets lost and becomes closer to the blue family. I absolutely love your review it was kind but critical enough to help me improve as an artist. I still have a lot to learn about how to create an impact with my art. Like I said, this is pretty much my first attempt at digital realism so I'm still pretty new at this. Thanks again!

The skin tone and the background is very good, but he looks a little serious. Try a smirk or grin or something. The camp half-blood shirt looks realy good but because he is in water it whould be a little floaty the same with his hair. Yeah you could have a few more fish, coral or sand to show the beauty of the sea as it is like the best, (far better than the sky or the underworld) and maybe have that reflected in his eyes.

I am making a fanfic about percy jackson and The Kane Chronicles and i need someone who draw the characters, 'cause i and my friend just know draw manga, can you help us? Or indicate someone who is interested?

Well I'd absolutely love to because that sounds fun and challenging, but I'm really lame when it comes to following through commitments like art request.
Reasons:
1. I'm taking pretty intensive classes Calculus, Organic Chemistry and Psychology
2. I work every day
3. I'm still struggling with anatomy and composition so each illustration (even just a pencil drawing) takes quite a bit of effort and commitment to do
4. I have artistic ADD and always start bunch of projects but rarely any of them come to completion (like this piece)
But yea I'll refer you to two of my friends (they are twins) who are pretty sweet when it comes to taking on others requests and they are quite good. But they too are really busy with a lot of requests but try them out if that works better. Wish I could be more of help.

I'm glad you like it! Right now I'm working on changing his expression to more smirky and I'm attempting to make his hair and shirt look more weightless. Also I got to tweak the lighting more to make it appear he is ACTUALLY underwater OTL

I do believe that Logan Lerman is a real hottie, but he's not what I imagined for Percy. Actually, it was all by chance but I came across Colton Haynes on google and after looking up so many of his pictures, I saw how much he matched Percy in my mind, especially after you look at his facial expressions when he grins and stuff. If you haven't seen the edit in my description, I used a reference of Colton Haynes, but I think it looks different enough to call it my own. (:

This is very neat! I think you did a wonderful job on this, but here's what I think should be fixed.
1) Tone the picture a little bit more- the portrait looks like a picture that has been taken, and the screen looks like it is smudged. I liked how you made it a beam of light, but tone it just a little bit.
2) Also tone his hair, so it looks real. You also should ad some more shading.
3) Yes, you should add more fish... I think what would make the picture really "WOW" people is if you put a creepy looking shark in the back... like it is turning to look at him, or just staring at him, or coming at him with his jaw open, or his coming in to attack!
Overall I would give you a 4 1/2...
if you fixed the things I mentioned... 5 stars for sure!

Thank you so much for your review! I'm not really sure what you mean by tone though... and I'm really liking that shark idea! It also kind of inspired me to do a full body illustration of him and Annabeth ridding a hippocampus. When I hone in my ability a little bit more, I hope to start on that project. I think I'm now at a stage where I can start constructing a face without reference but as for the body, I'm still anatomically immature...
