In preparation for the upcoming mock battle, Claude playfully attempts to get under the other house leaders skins. Instead he gets an unexpected encouragement from his new teacher.---------------------
I mean, Byleth was a mercenary before she got her improvised teaching license LOL. I'm sure she's resorted to a dirty tactic or two to make sure she'd complete the mission instead of charging head on towards the target. She is known as the "Ashen Demon" for a reason.
Pfft I like playing around with Byleth's quiet personality until I randomly don't. Claude is starting to like her if she's willingly playing along with his plans.

Not that Byleth really needs to scheme for that particular battle.Β The AI for the mock battle is deliberately programmed to make stupid decisions, like sending a squishy to act as bait without backup.Β The idea is that the lords have no clue what they're doing, except for Claude.Β On all non-deer routes, Claude will always be the one setting up an ambush, showing that he has some grasp of basic tactics.Β Too bad he still picks a really bad spot that leaves him nowhere to run when his flank gets attacked.
My headcanon is that Byleth is internally horrified by all the bad calls on display and can only lament that this year is going to be a long one.Β And they're, even if it's for all the wrong reasons.
