Is it possible to use a 3d model like for your Hologram application with this ?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

killall-q In reply to Pandionium [2018-08-12 03:59:33 +0000 UTC]

I had put some thought into how that might be done. The only difficult part would be sorting the randomly arranged vertices of any model so that, when they are attached to FFT bands, they are near others attached to similar frequency bands. If you think of the set of FFT bands (arranged from low to high frequencies) as a string, and you want to wrap that string around a model without crossing itself, the obvious solution that comes to mind is a helix. The vertices could be converted to cylindrical coordinates to make that sorting easier.

...Anyway, after putting a lot of thought into it, how I imagined the result would look didn't seem impressive enough to be worth the effort, so I abandoned the idea.

But you can see how a very basic implementation of this idea looks by converting Hologram into an audio visualizer.

thank you very much, but that geos way over my capacities, I don't understand it at all , yet thank you again for thinking about it.
You did very amzing skins anyway, I really love the hologram and managed to implement a cool alien pointcloud as hologram. Thought it would be really cool if it would react to the music a little, but that is too much for me. Yet I will still try to implement what you linked to in the next hour. Have a nice day.

Also: how do I open the .lua file to edit? What program do you use for that?

Β .....okay, I don't understand what to do in the lua at all -.-'

killall-q In reply to Pandionium [2018-08-15 04:22:07 +0000 UTC]

You can drag and drop Lua files into Notepad or a text editor for coding like Notepad++ , Visual Studio Code , or Sublime . I prefer VS Code myself. Just don't use MS Word or any rich text editor that may add formatting that can break code compilation.

I loved your work... Uhm, just want to ask,... I enlarged the meter using mouse scroll down coz I want to cover my whole screen with it, and I'm using the Circle Preset... But what I want to do is to make the midle cirlce to be a lot smaller... I tried to maximize it's perspective but it's maximum is "1".... Is there a way to add a lot more onΒ  he "PERSPECTIVE" toggle?

killall-q In reply to TheDevilMemnoch [2017-11-07 16:13:13 +0000 UTC]

Yes, you can manually edit the settings file to use out-of-range settings. Edit "Documents\Rainmeter\Skins\HoloFFT\Resources\Settings.inc" in Notepad, then refresh the skin.

Is there a way to change how each band reacts to sounds? I'm using the skin as a music visualizer and one of the bands hardly ever moves.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

killall-q In reply to hawken17 [2016-10-06 06:25:35 +0000 UTC]

Some compressed audio, particularly from streaming sources, may omit high frequencies deemed inaudible, as a compression method.

You can hide the highest frequency bands by creating "phantom" bands that won't be read by HoloFFT.

In HoloFFT.ini:
[mFFT0]
Bands= (# Bands#+1)(No spaces)

Sure, though it may be easier ("easier") to customize visualizations. If there's something you want added to the main skin, let me know and I'll consider the feasibility of adding it as a feature.

This point cloud function is outstanding. However, I am uncertain as to how to get it to react to audio? In that, the visualization looks the same without audio, and with audio playing.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

killall-q In reply to Sicknisco [2016-05-27 05:46:10 +0000 UTC]

Update your version of Rainmeter , then try the solutions in the AudioLevel plugin troubleshooting guide . HoloFFT measures all audio sources by default, but if you need to specify a device ID , do it in [mFFT0] in HoloFFT.ini.

Could u incorporate random colour changing like this skin?Β alatsombath.deviantart.com/art…

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

killall-q In reply to Ragingwasabi [2016-04-03 21:02:47 +0000 UTC]

Sorry, it's certainly possible, but impractical.

Fountain of Colors deals with, by default, 35 meters; whereas HoloFFT deals with 32 bandsΒ Γ— 128 rows = 4096 meters by default. Rainmeter is unfortunately CPU bound, and the only manipulations that scale well in CPU usage with very large numbers of meters, many times a second, areΒ Lua SetX/Y/W/H(), because they don't involve window size checks.

You can see the half-second pause when changing color or style; that's the operation that HoloFFT would have to perform 40 times a second to do any dynamic color changing.

I did have points change color according to FFT value in alpha, and it looked super sweet. But it was only smooth for a couple hundred points; IMO, more points always looks more impressive than very few points and dynamic colors.

Ahh yes hardware restrictions. Ah well. Hopefully in 50 years programmers and game devs wont have to deal with hardware restrictions ever again
