This artwork was a commission for the Presence Project by Andy Hunter, and is based around the opening of Psalm 19

Artwork Description:
While reading Psalm 19 it was clear there are some strong symbols established within the prose, so I wanted to ensure I reflected those within the piece.

The central object in the artwork is the sun, which of course is both a literal sun but also within it is found the symbols for alpha and omega, the beginning and end, that is of course God, bringer of light, sustainer of all things. The sun is portrayed as moving across the firmament on a brass ring, like those found in a orrery. This to me symbolises the “hidden” workings of the universe rather than the strictly mechanical order of the orrery and the human desire for deeper understanding, and knowledge, of the universe we are in.

Two angelic forms “hold” up the sun, not out of its need to be support but in exaltation of its position and duty as it radiates light but also knowledge in the form of scripts flowing from it. I chose to represent this by copying the opening verses of Psalm 19 in Hebrew, Japanese, and Arabic, the latter two purely for aesthetic and personal reasons, Hebrew of course being a nod to the original texts and the inspiration being given to the writer.
