Description
Completed a couple months ago as my submission for an art festival. I honestly think this is the most personally meaningful work I've done to date. I poured everything I've learned in digital art since I started a little over a year ago and I'm immensely proud of this work- even if I didn't win anything or place ^_^
For context, this is a depiction of the prophet Elijah (1 Kings 19) moments after being woken up by an angel after he collapsed from exhaustion under a broom tree (a large scraggly bush-like tree). Despite having recently performed miracles and bold actions in God's name, he fell into a very deep depression. While there is a lot to unpack in his story, I find it particularly powerful that when Elijah succumbed to this clinically depressive state... God didn't condemn him. He (God) didn't berate or belittle him- nor did he punish, abandon, shun, or withdraw from him. Instead, God sent an angel down to give Elijah food and drink. He comforted and restored the prophet's weary heart and despairing soul. Even if you're not "religious", I think the beauty of this message still translates- but who knows, maybe that's just me. In any case, this context is what makes (for me) my piece "Endure" a surprisingly positive and uplifting artwork. You just have to look 'under the hood' a little to see it.
If you're feeling despair, weariness, hopelessness, anxiety, worthless, meaningless, depressed, lost- no matter who you are or where you're at in life- don't let those very real and powerful feelings sell you lies as truth. Even though we might feel alone and that we aren't 'enough'... that's okay, because no storm lasts forever. There will always be light that breaches through even the darkest clouds. But... If we don't endure the storm, we'd never get to see that beauty. So stay strong, be resilient, seek truth, and never forget that you matter and are loved <3
