Here’s my angst family y’all

Here's how this family came to be:

After Queen Chrysalis was defeated and overthrown by her once loyal subjects, she was left with nothing. With nowhere to go and no sources of sustenance, she was powered by her own rage and hatred as well as the desire to protect her sole heir, a grub she had conceived with Shining Armor named Philia Agape Armet.

Unwilling to reach out for help, Chrysalis tried to restart her hive on her own. However, limited resources rendered her barely able to sustain herself and her spawn, let alone regain her power. She resorted to horrible things to feed herself—horrible things that she doesn’t regret, yet left her spawn forever traumatized. Neither dare to talk about it.

While Chrysalis was still unwilling to let herself be redeemed by the power of friendship, she knew that she had to form some kind of alliance with the ponies if she wanted to survive and retain her status. So, she brought Philia to the Crystal Empire to introduce him to his father. This ended in disaster, naturally. Although Cadence offered to take in her spawn and give him a better life, Chrysalis refused to accept her help. She took her spawn and set out to make some political deals with the royal sisters.

Celestia and Luna were surprised to find the fallen changeling queen on their castle doorsteps with a young colt in tow. While Thorax had helped improve relations between changelings and ponies, the royal sisters were reluctant to take in an individual who had caused so much harm in the past. When Chrysalis proposed some political agreements, they reluctantly took her in under strict conditions.

After Chrysalis was forced to prove her supposed harmlessness, she and the royal sisters got to discussing ways to form a political alliance. Chrysalis proposed that effective method of alliance was for her to enter a political marriage with one of the sisters. Celestia already had a child and would not share love with another, so she was out of the question. The only option was Luna.

And so Luna and Chrysalis got married in the name of stronger political relations. Both were reluctant and neither loved each other, but they vowed to try and make it work for the sake of politics. Luna also adopted Phil and made a promise to protect him and help raise him as her own.

Their marriage started off really awkward and rough, since it was formed on diplomatic matters and not love. Chrysalis was still vengeful towards the ponies and she and Luna argued a lot. At times, they even regretted making such a deal.

Eventually, Chrysalis came up with a new tactic to make life with Luna more tolerable. She began to open up about her hardships as a fallen queen...at least, her version of the story. She omitted all the horrible things she had done, instead paining herself as a poor mother who only wanted to feed her children. She used her lies and half-truths to turn herself into a martyr.
Of course, Luna fell for this and took pity on the changeling, eventually even falling in love with her. It was enough that Chrysalis could satisfy her own hunger without harming Luna, and soon she even produced their heir, who they named Firefly.
From the outside, they appeared to be a loving family that had persevered despite a rocky start. Luna would agree with this sentiment, and Firefly, too, thinks their situation is pretty good.

Phil, meanwhile, never forgave Chrysalis for what she did, growing more and more depressed until he was old enough to move out. He despises Chrysalis but is fine with Luna and Firefly so he stays in touch, but most chalk his gloomy attitude up to an emo phase that has gone on for too long.
Chrysalis didn’t get the hive that she wanted and still resents Thorax and his kingdom, but she is fed and comfortable so she feels no need to harm others now. Luna makes decent company and she does enjoy having an heir to raise who doesn’t hate her. Still, she isn’t opposed to resorting back to her past ways if the need ever arises.
