I honestly don't know why I never modeled Mikey in 3D before, since he was always my favourite. I guess watching the old series again on DVD put me back into the crazed Turtlemania that I went through as a kid. I've also been rewatching the new series lately and I love them both.
The old for the campy 80's cartoon silliness and nostalgia, and the new for the awesome story development and acting.
Even if none of the actors in the new series can pronounce any Japanese worth squat. I can't count the number of times I winced when The Shredder prattled on about his beloved "Sword of Ten Jews" in the first season. Still, I suppose it's better than Splinter randomly exclaiming "kamikaze sakura wasabi!" in the middle of a fight in the old cartoon.

Anyway, this is sort of a mix of inspirations, I drew from Mikey's design from both cartoon series, a little from the movies and even the Archie comic series, which I collected for some time when I was in school.

For a long time while making this, I was going to have him holding the rest of his pizza in his right hand, but I really wanted to have him doing his infamous nunchaku twirl - so much so that I considered rendering out two poses and making a collage - but I think I did the right thing combining them.

Michelangelo was always the best turtle. Cowabunga!
