Here's the aircraft insignia
for the Combine Air Corps.

They were created a little while after the revolution when the military took an interest in the newly created machine that was the aircraft.

Originally aircraft were seen as a product of science fiction, and in the preceding years of their inception a marvel, but many military leaders around the world didn't take them seriously.

Thinking these new machines to be some nonsense toy with no real military application.

However reconnaissance balloons were used in a limited fashion by both sides during the war with the empire, and in the last year of the war, airships by the Republic,
the former prove to be valuable in gathering information for coming battles, the latter had little impact but proved interesting enough to experiment with in the postwar era.

Only in the postwar era was any real consideration given to Heavier-than-air aircraft, which were regarded even less by most generals.

This was a mistake as tests conducted by the Combine and other nations found the "aeroplane" to be a most interesting weapon.

For decades the Vextherian Navy was nearly unbeatable, it was the thorn in the side of the Republic and of it's successor,
but tests conducted by the Combine military had found that aircraft could be an effective counter to Vextherian naval supremacy.

Unfortunately there was the issue of range, being able to strike the enemy far away from the coastline and out at sea.
The aircraft of today have far greater range than of those earlier models, but the thought had occurred.

What if one could take the fight to the enemy's homeland and to their empire as a whole?

One would need an effective delivery platform for getting the aircraft to their target, this platform arose by combining the mighty airship with the nimble and versatile aeroplane.
This idea was thought of before, many suggesting a "floating airstrip" as a way of eliminating the range issue, unfortunately with the Vextherian fleet such a ship would need to be guarded by other warships to prevent it being destroyed,
thereby requiring the construction of a larger navy which would would prove inferior to imperial forces, and would not be cost effective.

Therefore the decision was made to create a "Airborne carrier" which could fly over the imperial fleet, launch it's aircraft which would then attack the enemy ships, while being out of reach of the enemy guns,
then it's aircraft could fly back to their "mother ship" and then proceed back to base, while traveling at speeds faster than the enemy Fortress-ships (Battleships).

All the while being cost effective and far more difficult to hit, but with the tradeoff of being more vulnerable to storms and bad weather in general.

This information was looked upon and the decision was made to have the "Airborne carrier" and it's fighters be the vanguard for the Combine Air Corps.

Thought was also put into another weapon of war, the more role specific aerobomber which could strike the enemy without needing the use of a carrier.
The pros being that it would be larger aircraft able to fit more explosives thereby doing more damage, the cons being that it would be larger aircraft requiring the use of a even larger carrier or the range issue to be settled.

With all said, the Combine air force is the most advanced of it's kind in the world and is seen by it's leaders to be the answer to the question of defense,
as well as the future of how warfare will be conducted from here out.
