Persistence in the knowledge of evil sometimes can be wilful evil, but more often it's weakness. This applies rather nicely to most smokers. But really evil is a moral assessment, not knowledge; evil is produced by one's point of view, rather than vice versa. We should be careful in applying morality to reason.
Quit smoking if you think it's bad, by all means. However, to plagiarize a famous artist, "if you want to run cool, you got to run on heavy fuel". : P
