How did you get such a flat color? Certainly it wasn't with the watercolor, right?
you just used the pens for outlining and shading, no?

I used Prismacolor and Copic markers. The important thing with markers is to color steadily and fairly fast and use heavy weight paper.

Okay, since I already made a fangirly comment at lj I'm going to make a more professional one over here.
I really love everything about this. Especially his hair, the graduation of color you have going there just looks *so* fucking slick. The quality of lines and the structure of his face is really great, and I love the details, from his earring to the black eye. The shine of the gel-pen for the whites really works in this piece, and I really like how the background adds to the picture without distracting from the main deal.
I think my one critique would have to be that your blade needs a little more realism. The handle has a lot of good weight, but I think because of the SHAPE of Jay's trademark blade the shading has made it come off a bit cartoony as opposed to a realistic blade wave.
That's my only critique though, love the composition and the colors and his sexy sexy face.
