Yes it was, it appeared around the same time Daeodon started dying out and likely outcompeted it.

Daeodon died out about 18 million years ago, the last Daphoenodon and Hyaenodon 14 million years ago nad Amhpicyon became extinct 1.8 million years ago.

The problem is that Daphoenodon went extinct at around the same time as Daeodon, so if Daphoenodon is still around, Amphicyon hasn’t taken over yet.

Smilodon was really wimpy when it appeared about 3 million years ago, Amphicyon managed to eliminate the last Creodontid, 10 million years
