Description Day had turned to night across the Pridelands, with a sheet of stars outlining the sky just like glitter. Rafiki, a wise old baboon, and friend of the Lion King, Mufasa, led Simba, the young Prince and Mufasa’s son, into the Tree of Life.

“I have something to show you, young Prince.” Rafiki said to Simba as he followed him through the branches and leaves to the centre of the tree.
“Wow, this place looks so much bigger than it does on the outside!” gasped Simba as he looked all around at his surroundings in complete awe. He then caught up with Rafiki. “Is this where you live?”
“You could say that. This is where I come to have some peace and quiet from all you scary lions.” joked Rafiki as he ruffled Simba’s tuft of hair on the top of his head.
“Pfft, we’re not that scary…” said Simba, “And hey, stop messing up my mane!” He brushed his small tuft of hair back into place with his paw.
“If you think that is a mane, young Prince, just wait until you’re a fully grown lion like your father.” Replied Rafiki.

Rafiki then stood by a large tree trunk in the centre, with Simba stopping at the other side, his paws pressed against it.

“Do you notice anything?” asked Rafiki, to see if Simba spotted the peculiar drawing painted on the tree trunk.
“Hmm, I see… some hands… and… a lion?” guessed Simba, closely observing the pictures.
“Yes, you are right. And who do you think that lion is?” asked Rafiki.

Simba focused his eyes even closer on the drawing, trying to figure out an answer to Rafiki’s question. After a long pause, he just looked up at Rafiki with a confused expression.

Rafiki then smiled and laughed, “You’re telling me you don’t recognise who this lion is?”
“Hmm, well, I’d say it was just a random drawing, just like the other animals on there.” answered Simba.
“Simba… can you remember what your father told you when you went up to the promontory?” asked Rafiki, trying to see how much Simba had learnt about his future.
“Well, I remember that my dad told me that all the Pridelands will be mine when I’m King. He said that everything the light touches will be my kingdom…” Simba felt like mentioning that “shadowy place”, but he cut himself short after the incident in the Elephant Graveyard. He knew that he had disobeyed his father, and so he didn’t want to do it again.

Rafiki sat down, and placed his hand over the cub’s shoulder, “That lion in this drawing is more than just a “random drawing”, it’s you.” He gave Simba a smile, and then stood up again.
Simba couldn’t say anything else, other than “Wow.” He stared at it bewilderedly but also with awe and amazement.

Wow, another upload you say? Yep, I'm on a roll with my TLK canon fanart, and who knows, I might have some more to upload here sooner than you think too

A bit of background info: This scene is intended to come in between the Elephant Graveyard scene and the Stampede scene, where Simba goes with Rafiki to his tree and sees his painting of Simba, hence the title

The background took me quite a while, and I spent some time adding details and tweaking parts of it until I looked at it and thought I couldn't do much else xD I'm really happy with how it turned out. I think I might stick with this new style. What do you think?

A huge thanks goes to for helping me out with Rafiki. He's a difficult character to draw and it's the first time I've actually been satisfied with how I've drawn him, and I couldn't have done it without Leor's help, so I'm really thankful for that <3

Update 18/08/12: Story added.

Well, it is strange that Simba didn't remember Rafiki if this happens. If he was a baby yes, because all of us don't remember about we as babies, but if Simba met Rafiki at that age, Simba must have remembered him when they were "reunited". But is cute ^^

Wonderful piece! Rafiki turned out fantastic, and I love his expression. (I think he's difficult to draw, too.) Love your night-time color scheme, too. Very nice!

Yay for more TLK art!! ^^ Again, you did an awesome job with this drawing. I'm glad I could be of some help regarding Rafiki, I think he's a character that can make many artists shy about drawing him, but once you've drawn him and studied his features, it can turn quite simple. Props to you for having the courage of giving the old baboon a try

As for your new style with the background, I really like it and I would love to see more of it. You know how to give a drawing the mood it needs with the lighting, and those smudges give your drawings an impressionistic look, kind of like oil paintings, which looks great

Keep up the good work

Aww, thanks Yeah, you could say I'm a bit shy at drawing him usually, and he's one of those characters that you just need to pluck up the courage to draw, but once you get it and study the features, it can turn out quite easy, like you said ^^ Maybe next time I'll try the hyenas. Now those are characters I've NEVER had the courage to draw before xD

I'm glad you like my new style too. It's really fun to do, so I think I'll stick with the oil painting look

Thank you once again for the help
