Description An old character... but of those that haven't been drawn yet (yep there is quite a number of those...) As yu can see this former human has cut out all of his internal organs and replaced them with a bell. Ever since his Unlife begun he's been living on the edge of great abyss... with his blind eyes sensing otherwise unseen beings that move in and out... and he marks the coming of more significant ones by ringng the bell with the hammer held in right hand. the bell is also his main weapon as he can unleash magickal energy (or as somee believe, lesser spirits inhabiting emptied cavities of his body) by ringing it.. the sicle is not needed in fights and he helds it just of sentiment (And of sentimet he occasionally rips out the guts of his fallen foes with the sickle, to remind him of his own passage into Unlife.)

Despite that he's quite friendly and does not kill for amusement, only when he's disturbed.

To, że Ty o tym nie wiesz, nie znaczy, że tak nie jest. Wszystko się ostatecznie sprowadza do mateczki xD

Truly haunting!!!

...getting back to our discussion about Tolkien and horror--this poem, and the animated film which it inspired, shows that Tolkien knew how to convey horror in the classic sense of the word!

very cool! Are they some random creation of Tolkien or the poem is set in the middle earth? (I suppose Mewlips could be Goblins in some tongue)

It seems to be a song sung by Hobbit parents to their children, to keep them at home! Yes, for Mewlips read Goblins, and for Merlock Mountains read Misty Mountains!

WOW!!!!!!!   That theory certainly bears thinking about; but the Old Forest isn't specifically evil, not in the sense that Mirkwood had become--the trees of the old Forest are wild and inimical to human-kind, but that doesn't necessarily make them evil (Old Man Willow being a notable exception)---and the Barrow-Wights date back to the time of the Witch-King of Angmar and his enemies, so they are your basic hostile un-dead.

As for Tom Bombadil, I'm surprised that nobody seems to have guessed that he is a disguised cameo appearance by the Author!  Tom Bombadil is J.R.R. Tolkien, visiting the world of his creation in appropriate costume, and Goldberry is his wife....

Or--this has also occurred to me more than once--Bombadil and Goldberry are the reborn spirits of Beren and Luthien, leading a blissful, carefree life which was denied to them back in the tumultuous First Age.  And they could still be Tolkien and his wife, for the names BEREN and LUTHIEN are actually carved on the tombstones of Professor and Mrs. Tolkien.

Yeah I heard many theories but this is one of the coolest ones. And I think the trees were indeed more evil than in Mirkwood. Think that mirkwood provided home for many bad monsters (since Sauron took control over Dol Guldur I guess) but the trees themselves were seemingly neutral. Around Tom's place hobbits mentioned to sense hate emanating from the trees. The theory isn't perfect but I think one of the msot interesting things that it mentions is observation that powrful beings in the world of Middle Earth tend to influence the atmosphere of their surroundings.. and around Bobadils house it isn't the nicest really XD

oh and that scene. I seriosuly consider drawing it!

And one dark night the old trees will march westward into the Shire to feed their ancient hatred. And Bombadil will dance down amongst them, clad in his true shape at last, singing his incomprehensible rhymes as the trees mutter their curses and the black and terrible Barrow-Wights dance and gibber around him. And he will be smiling.

It will definitely be a scene for you to draw!!   But I must delve into Tolkien's own explanation of Bombadil, if he left any, and find out what he was thinking when he wrote about that enigmatic character.

As far as I remember hea said something that every world needs a mystery and Bombadil was meant to be such a mystery of Middle Earth.

Hmmm I don;t think I'll really be doing this one. it's like Assyrian incarnation of the Sphinx and I've done thee lready. I might remake my older more massive sphinx into that as I am dong new, more slender version of the sphinx now.
