I love this take on the fighting-machine, certainly gives the element of grace and quickness of movement that Wells wanted to evoke. The echo of the Grim Reaper certainly fits for the aspect of them being exclusively motivated by mass extermination of Earthly life. I reckon that if the "camera" were spun around, we would see a Martian in an open cockpit under the hood, looking very gleeful indeed about the invasion!

Hi KingOvRats! I'm working on a podcasted reading of The War of the Worlds; could I use this as part of the episode cover art?

I love this redesign of the Martian Tripod, I'm a huge WOTW fan, I have both the 1953 and 2005 movies on DVD, and have both versions of Jeff Wayne's Musical versions on CD.
I always tried to make my own unique tripod design as a kid, but it would always look too similar to other designs, maybe I should try it again.
There was one sketched design a couple years ago that I was quite proud of, but the sketch got lost throughout the years.
The tripod had three segments like an insect body, the head was long and oval shaped, with long beetle like pincers on the front that housed search lights, the window would resemble an organic eye, and antenne that looked like whale balines (I hope I spelled that right) stuck out from the back of the head, from which the black smoke would vent out from.
The middle segment of the body would have all the tentacles of the tripod, and a bulkier tentacle that housed the heat ray.
And the lower segment/abdomen would have the three signature legs, they'd start out thick and would get thinner and slender as they went down, and would end in 3 mechanical claws that looked like crows feet.
My description probably makes it sound cooler than it really is. XD

Yeah, perhaps, I've been kinda unmotivated and stressed lately because of some real life problems, so this could be something to take me out of my drag.
I also found out about a dutch legend/myth, but I think it's also known in other cultures, it's called "Dwaal lichten" or wandering lights, and it's about these small lights that appear in forrests and swamps after midnight, nobody knows what they are, some say they're the spirits of children who haven't been baptized, and lead people to lakes or rivers for them to be baptized, others say they lead people to treasure, others say the lights are from the devil, trying to set travelers on the wrong path, their appearance also seem to change, sometimes they appear as just a light, other times a person holding a lantern, and other times they're a complete building that glows in the dark.
Sorry if I was rambling on, but I'd thought you might find this interesting.

Cool pic that combines the organic and mechanical in a deliciously Giger-esque manner. It also brings the mind to octopi, phasmatidae, and carnivorous plants (or indeed, a hooded man's head, with a fleshy/metallic basket on his back) which is particularly nice compared to the more rigid, stilt-like attempts I've seen from others who've tried making their own art of the WotW's Martian fighting machines. Your WotW art is excellent!
It is admirable, in a brutally practical way, to have the aliens not wasting any useful organic matter. Too bad for them that earth-germs turned out as well for them as a Conquistador with smallpox did to the Aztec Empire, eh?

I wasn't expecting someone out of Poland to notice xP You see this is one of the classics of Polish internet, a scene where some guy explains to his friend that he needs a special paint for aluminium... and notoriously misspelling it as amielinium not even realising that he's making a mistake XD (and swearing a lot XD) www.youtube.com/watch?v=t8lnCA…
