Undiluted cordial is very strong, if you drink too much it can contribute to killing you. Or make your pee turn purple. But mostly death.

Anne of Green Gables is a book. i think it's aimed at children. idk so much, i was forced to read it in high school for literature class.
In the book this Anne chick and her friend play tea party and drink cordial and her friend gets sick. I believe that what the comment was directed at.

I can't believe someone could live through drinking that much of such a drink ._. It sounds like drinking sugar packed sugar water served in a bottle made of sugar... with a grape-like flavoring
