He’s nicer to foals and mares, but around other Stallions, he can be competitive. To close friends, he’s loyal, kind, caring and determined. He’s courageous, and valiant for the mares that he likes, but he has a closer bond with his rider, who he vowed to protect no matter what. He’s spirited, cocky and doesn't let one small thing faze him. When angry, he ventures off and no one can calm him but his rider, but after when he’s calm, he doesn't say much but just listens to advice.

History: Joseph Draper brought Spanish Arabians into the American picture when he imported five horses from Spain in 1934; including the foundation mares, *Meca and *Menfis, no further major additions were made until the Charles Steen imports of 1965. One of these mares was the mother of Basilla who was a young filly and was pregnant with Othello at the time.

Early in the history of the Arabian horse in America, directors of the Arabian Horse Registry were trying to promote the Arabian Horse in the United States was to get the Army interested in using and breeding Arabians. They spent a lot of time, money, and energy proving to cavalry majors that Arabians made the best cavalry horses. The Calvary was won over by the ability of the Arabians in endurance and stamina and their ability to carry such a heavy load over miles without tiring. But they weren't completely won over yet. They needed to make sure that these horses were sound and surefooted and weren't spooky horses.
The Spanish Arabians were brought as an answer.

By this time the Army was convinced that Arabian horses had tremendous endurance ability and should be used to develop a supply of saddle horses that could be called to service if needed. Unfortunately, Arabians were scarce and difficult to obtain at that time. The Calvary were in awe of the beauty and the calmness of the Spanish bloodlines and the rare color of the palomino coat of Basilla. They wanted them at once; however, the others would going to be used as a foundation in breeding for the Spanish Blood, so instead they took in Basilla and her pregnant mother, in hopes that just by having a little bit of Spanish Arabians in their fleet would help them succeed.

Sadly, due to difficulty in giving birth, Othello and Basilla's mother passed. Without a mother, Othello received extra care from the Calvary and well as from his older sister as well. He became known as the "Spoiled Foal" around the stables but still everyone loved the lovable foal-especially the mares. When he became older of age of 2 years old, he caught the eye of the Colonel who was mesmerized by the two horse siblings with palomino coats. Othello was trained and tested instantly to test his speed, endurance, stamina, and soundness. He passed all tests with flying colors and then became known as the Colonel's steed, and was then decided that when the time was right he and his sister would be bred with the other horses in hopes to improve their steeds even more.

Othello was a prized stallion in the stable and flirted like the king he knew he was. However, one day he noticed a racket among the stable handlers. He was a little confused to all the commotion and was shocked to see that they had a young girl in handcuffs. She dressed unlike anything he had ever seen: feathers in hair, bare foot, golden cooper skin, and strange markings that he had never seen.

Always curious, he would watch and observe her from a distance. Curious about the new stranger. At night he would visit the young girl and found out that she was kind and sweet, and very gentle unlike most of the rough men in the stable. The girl and Othello formed a friendship and a bond despite his sister's arguments that he would only get himself in deeper trouble over a stupid human. He ignored her protests and continued to befriend the human girl.

One day, while being ridden by the Colonel he noticed that a few of the men were harassing the girl and went to her aid, jumping over the gate and attacking them. The Colonel whipped him with a whip and Othello threw him in defiance. After that incident, Othello was put up and was then ordered to either be gelded for fear that his snappish genes would appear in his foals or to be killed if he didn't return back to his regular behavior. At Night, Basilla visited his stall and scolded him about jeopardizing the best thing in his life over a stupid human. The fight ended with harsh words and Othello saying to his sister, "You only care about your job and pleasing the Colonel and nothing else." After the argument they didn't speak.

The next night, he awaited his fate since he wouldn't accept nothing from the Calvary. His ears perked when he noticed that the girl had got out of her trap. He was glad and expected her to leave but was shocked when she freed and untied him. Together, they rode out of camp-but not before they were spotted. Othello was one of the fastest horses and was able to quickly get away, but the only one who could keep up with him was his sister, Basilla; however, after her brother failed she became the Colonel's mount and quickly gained on her brother-but due to her love for her younger brother, she caused a diversion and allowed him and the girl to escape far away. After that moment-that was the last time they saw each other.

Lost Midnight brings Othello to her home and introduces him to the world of Native Americans. At first, he was taught that they were savages and were unruly but after staying with them he realized that they were all lies and rumors. He decided to stay but only for a little while, and even made friends with Lost's other horse-the fresian, Natick.

He flirted with the different mares but one caught his eye; A beautiful paint with blue eyes. He didn't know her name or who she was but he wanted to. Instead of following around like other stallions did, he would just keep to himself and mostly talk to a few other horses but stay around Natick and Lost. He asked Natick about the mare since he knew everyone, but Natick didn't know her either.
Othello swore he liked to know and meant the mare...

^^

Other Facts about Othello: He was named "Othello" because that was his mother's favorite character in shakespeare's play.
