I've always believed in the existence of witches. When I was a Kid I was frightened to hell and back because of the existence of these beigns (If you could call that scare, because I don't remember to be frightened by...) now I'm fascinated with them.

And nowadays, Witches aren't more a scary thing... but a research thing... how's that they got their powers? Why they're the female encarnation of magic? Are there good witches and bad witches? The whole world of the mystics just keeps bumping on my head.

This is my depiction on the THREE LADIES OF SORROW, a topic well known by all Dario Argento's Fans and all Tomas De Quincey readers.

According to De Quincey, there were three poweful ladies, whose magicks came not from good, but from the evil they spread. They were the three mothers: The mother of Whispers (MATER SUSPIRIARUM), The mother of Tears (MATER LACHRYMARUM) and The Mother of Darkness (MATER TENEBRARUM).

According to Italian Giallo Director Dario Argento, there are three beigns, powerfull enough to rule the entire human fate. These beigns are death incarnated and they live in three differents places. SUSPIRIARUM lives on Germany, where she stalked Susy Banion and tried to expand her triumph as The Black Queen. On New York used to live TENEBRARUM, whose supposedly been death... or is she nursing somebody?. She has been visited by LACHRYMARUM, who's the prettiest of them all... she lives on Rome. Or perhaps she died on fire, just like her two other sisters did and now she's coming back for vengeance?

Either way, the details about those beigns were recorded on five books, for which all of them are lost... perhaps destroyed.

These, are how I think they are. And no, I neither based my own designs on how De Quincey painted'em or how Argento filmed them. It's my own way of saying WITCH!.

This one goes dedicated to Argento, hoping he finishes soon LA TERZA MADRE, and ends once and for all my most terryfing, yet loving, saga of movies.
