The eye isn't the only part about this work that works. The parallel line shading gives it a real manga feel
The only thing that is throwing me off is her left set of eyelashes; the ones that protrude from her face on the right. They seem a little long, but it might just be the angle.

I really love anime and manga. They are so fun to draw and I am drawn in by that style of face. I really stink at the bodies though.... hopefully one day I can add something to the eyes, and faces.

The Japanese style of character art has definitely become influential over the years... mostly because, as you said, they are fun to draw. I am very fond of it myself ^-^
