Gotta love how this is oddly reminiscent of a family portrait- and how I look COMPLETELY awkward.I think this is a good amount of the Kingdom Hearts (BESIDES the Org. 13) who attended Metrocon 2010.

Mm, if you want any suggestions I could help.
It seems like a sort of rubber like fabric would be used if you ask me
but the thing is theres detail like riffs and ridges in it so it'd take a ton of work for all of those 3D nitches and whatnot so using liquid latex over a bodysuit would work well as long as you use a finish after placing the body of the liquid latex

No no its just that I've looked into the idea of bodysuits like that when I didn't want to uh sew the whole thing persay.

My method does have some tutorials from sites and all,
it's just not a one man job though, it takes a good bit of time and work to make a peice of art like that suit.

Well I have 7 months to make this suit, which is why I'm gonna perfect the crap out of it.
So you're saying, I should buy a black bodysuit as a base? That's kind of what I figured I should do, I'm just concerned about how i'm going to color and create the rubber looking material parts on the front of his costume.

Liquid latex is the answer to the issue really
just takes time
and money
it comes in different colors
and can be shaped
thing is.. you may want to get a plastic man thingy to put the suit on it so you can do it yourself instead of wearing it and having someone do it yourself
im not sure if those things are pricey or not though

Yeah I was falling asleep when I thought of it because I'm going to have to use the same technique soon and I don't want to be limited to making it with someone because i have a ton of alone time when I work
and laying it out and putting it on would be a bad idea because it wouldn't be fully stretched and things could be misplaced.

eh, if worst comes to worst a couple of my friends are my size and they'll just have to suffer through hours of torture while I make the costume.
The only problem i'm having is that i'm not sure if they carry the colors the Vanitas has on the front of his suit, which I want to say are purple and red, but they're a specific shade and such.

Well they most likely have the red and purple ish colors.
its not that hard to find really
that and if you get flesh toned you can color over it I believe...
that may result in the color to come off more easily but if you use a final seal on it you should be good.
Now you have to understand that this material is expensive and you'll need a lot of it.
I'd recomend getting a large qauntity of it in the Ben Nye variety
Ben Nye is VERY reliable and very good.
Its what I use.
but it comes in flesh tone so you'd have to paint it.

if your going to used colored liquid latex try finding a large amount of it in the desired colors.
I believe graftobian is pretty decent.
Although I do have their black in 1 oz and I must say that its not a very dark black

With the jaw thing he has, you may want to use wonderflex to make that and then figure out a way to apply that to your jaw.
that or make it part of the costume.
are you doing it with the helmet thing or not?
because with it you'd need to find a way to be able to see through it...
I do have an idea for that though.
you could use a black body suit as your base and cover everything in the black but the head,
the end line for the liqui latex would be covered by the jawlining so that'd work~

That was SO helpful, really. I don't think I'm going to do the whole helmet, but I will do the jaw lining (only because I want to show off my wig/contacts.)
Again, I have 7 months to debut this costume, so money won't be TOO much of an issue seeing as how I have a lot of time to make it.
AND, yes, I really want to attempt his black/red looking keyblade (or the x-blade, depending on which would be easier.) I'd say the x-blade might be easier since it's really just two intersecting kingdom keys with a sword like thing going down the middle.
I think i'm going to buy the more flesh toned latex. In Vanitas's costume it kind of fades from red to purple, and I think I could make it look more realistic with paint. Since i'm gonna be spending so much time on it, I don't mind spending longer to paint it.
And with the whole blow up mannequin issue- my uncle is a manager at a K-mart and is letting me use a model mannequin for free. HECK YES.
I dunno if I asked you already- are you going to Mega or Metrocon again next year? I think you said you were but I forget everything way too easily. At any rate, if you are i'd want to show you how the costume would turn out. ^_^

Oh well the black/red one is the one you see with him more often, but theres gaps, like holes in the area where you'd put the dowel as a base and support for the prop soi you may just want to do the x-blade although the other one would go better with everything.
Ah okay then I find the finish for you, I think I found information on it on yahoo answers from all my god damn researching
LMFAO heres the info:
Apply another fine coat of Liquid Latex Ultra Shine to the outside of the suit, and apply baby (talcum) powder to the inside of the suit
I think this is what makes the inside comfortable and then the latex more durable. I'll look a little more into it later because I know I've heard mroe about it
