Probably because he just wanted to be a regular kid. But because of some legend, he had the weight of the entire world on his shoulders, or at least a group of legendary pokemon and an island. Bit much for a 10-year-old kid just trying to go on a fun journey, wouldn't you say?
Not that I don't like this or the movie, but...just my opinion.

I understand your point but in Ocarina of Time Link was seven years old when he began his quest. They both come from different worlds and are a few years apart but Link was thrown into the situation too. I'm sure that he just wanted to stay in home without a care in the world but he faced far greater challenges than Ash ever did. All Ash had t do was place three orbs in their places and avoid the Legendary Pokemon in the process. Link on the other hand, had to survive through ten temples filled with dangerous monsters to get to the boss and he had to defeat them to retrieve the Medallions and Stones. Three of those Temples he had to face as a seven year old boy with no help whatsoever. He did get advice along the way but he was on his own. Then at the very end, he had to go to Ganon's castle to face the trials of the Temples he just completed in order to free the sages to be able to get to Princess Zelda. Then, he faced Ganondorf and afterwards had to escape a crumbling castle (with the help of Zelda finally) Then he faced Ganon for the last time with no Master Sword! lol Ash wouldn't of survived that fall in the ocean if Misty hadn't come looking for him. I guess what I am saying is that, Ash and Link were both young and none of them wanted the fate of the world on their shoulders. The only difference between the two of them is that they are front different worlds and Ash had the luxury of having his friends there to help him through it all. Link had no one.

But your point still stands. Still though, they're both very different people and deal with hat in different ways. Link is Definately Nintendo's perfect hero though, so that's probably why. I mean, he travels across the land on foot or horseback, fighting through the night as zombies attack his child self. Like you said, he faces ten dungeons, and has to deliver the final blows to the evil doom about to intercept the entire kingdom. Then, he must run vigorously through the collapsing fortress of his fallen opponent. Then, he finally gets to banish the Evil King once and for all, banishing his body and soul to the Evil Realm. Nintendo designers Definately took the best ideas of their childhood vision of awesome, and made it into Link.
Ash/Satoshi is surely meant to be cool at times, being one of the best Trainers in Kanto, but he's also meant to be relatable. You are meant to see him as the underdog. He grows like other kids (No he dusint hess forever 10!!1!1! -that's just a joke, not you, please don't take it that way ^_^") Anyway, Ash is meant to be like you as you watch, therefore he faces challenges of many types and is more showing of his emotions (stubborn, sad, worried, scared, etc.) and that's just because of who he is. Now, again, let me clarify that I'm not like, criticizing or anything, I totally see what your saying and I find it kinda funny actually, but this is just my opinion on the matter.

Ash... seriously, you ran into literal death in the first movie with no consideration of your well-being like a true hero, but then you bitch in the second movie? Then doing something heroic in the fourth? Make up your mind, man! (Oh and go on a date with Misty/somebody already)

Haha yeah Ash seems to always need a long speech to get him motivated to do anything. But, I would probably say that same thing to him lol. Yes! Link is awesome. He's definitely my favorite character when it comes to video games
