Ka'en was born to a jewellery maker and the bodyguard she fell in love with on one of her caravan's treks to the city. They were relatively simple people and lived in the rather ordinary area of Rangin-Tilal, despite the fact that they could afford to live somewhere higher in society. Ka'en grew up and adopted the tight-knit attitude of the community from an early age. He followed his family's caravan group whenever they made trips to and from Mehrang, a circle of craftsmen and merchants transporting their wares to sell in the city.

His parents often had to leave him alone while they worked. Ka'en would spend his time playing with the local children in the streets and on rooftops. His father encouraged him to protect them from the rougher ones in the neighbourhood, in preparation for his future role as another guard for the caravans. Ka'en was taught to use his sword and power responsibly, not to use it to take advantage of others. He was always scared to use a blade however, resorting to brawling street kids to the ground if he had to do any protecting. Regardless, he trained with his sword every day to keep his father happy.

Ka'en came to know his pokemon companion one day in the city, when he was with his parents selling jewellery. He took a walk around the place and saw an exotic pet merchant. He sold all sorts of pokemon from Mehrang, to as far away as Ordell. Ka'en took a liking to a pokemon from much closer to home - a young CHIMCHAR from the local mountains. He loved it so much that his mother bartered with the merchant to get it for her son. Ka'en affectionately named his new friend Jumana, after the Telisian pearl bracelets she was traded for. They bonded immediately, the two going absolutely everywhere with each other causing more mischief than before.

Some time after he came of age, the caravans were ambushed by bandits on the way to Mehrang. It was not Ka'en's first time experiencing it, but it was the first time he was expected to take action with the other guards. He took up his blade but was unable to bring himself to do anything as a bandit approached him. He could not think, he just did the first thing that came to mind. He dropped his sword and socked the man in the face.

He has never drawn his blade since.

Additional information:
Ka'en is knowledgeable about bladed weapons and gemstones thanks to his parents.
The scar on his left shoulder is from a childhood injury, where Ka'en badly gashed himself while sword training with his father. His fear of bleeding out has subsided, but is still there.
The sword he carries is a coming of age gift from his father. It is functional, but is only worn as a deterrent. If he is attacked though, Ka'en would use his fists.
Ka'en practices moves everyday with Jumana. She has proven to be quite the sparring partner.
His hometown, Rangin-Tilal, is to the east of Mehrang. It roughly translates to 'coloured hills', named so after the colourful range gems that can be mined in the area.
Jumana often takes food from stalls as she pleases, because she knows her owner is rich and will pay up for it. A strict word from Ka'en to stop shuts her down right away, though. As a result the two almost always have a large stash of food with them.

Revamped my darling from Pokimono for this group! I pretty much pulled myself out of Poki after years of inactivity and I found PF like. THE DAY AFTER TALK ABOUT GREAT TIMING
I had a few days of debating who I was going to use here actually, I dug up all my unused/retired pokemon characters including Amiran and Tania ... I eventually settled between Kaenta and Tania, and he obviously made it through to the end of the revamp process as you can see XD
At one point I got super worried cos no one seemed to be applying for Mehrang haha the Telisian and Annwyan apps everywhere daunted me

It was pretty nice to revamp him like this. It's not often I revamp something and have to completely rework their appearance ;u; Kaenta also proved to be a hard one to rework backstory-wise too, since I wanted to keep his fighting style aspect. He never really had a solid history anyway but despite that, it was hard to make a proper one I liked. It went through at least three different versions haha

I did have trouble trying to keep his original name which was in Japanese. I would have been glad to change it to something more appropriate for the theme but I was too attached to it haha
In the end I dropped the end syllable and added an apostrophe for easier reading with the intended pronounciation. Kaen (火炎) literally means 'blaze' so it sort of worked with the new setting being in a land full of hot landscapes and hot people also Kaen is apparently the name for the fire rune in viking something? //google gives me weird things i dont bother to read
His surname means 'secret' in Hindi. I think I used an Arabian Nights surname generator online and liked the sound of one, and finally ended up at Rahsya after googling similar, real words based on the one that was generated for me.
//ironic that it works nicely for Mehrang but it's not derived from Middle Eastern languages at all

His clothes were heavily based on things I found in Persian miniature paintings as well as a touch of Magi/Final Fantasy. The app image - I now think - was a bad idea to have him sitting down since it doesn't really show off Ka'en's clothes properly haha there's a whole bit at the back which isn't visible--
Middle Eastern clothing is so amazing and pretty amg personally now I'm wondering if I should've made a female character so she could wear all the amazing Turkish clothes out there ahhhh~

Figuring out how to draw an INFERNAPE (and a female one at that without sexualising/humanising the design too much) was a hard task. I pretty much ended up basing Jumana's poses and movement on small monkeys, but she fists her hands like a gorilla cos INFERNAPEs are just so darn heavy lol
Hopefully I'll get much better as I go along haha

Totally not regretting the patterns on Ka'en's tunic nope

Anyway, loving everyone's gorgeous apps so far and CANT WAIT TO TORMENT YOU ALL WITH KA'E--
