I really liked - still do - the unique shape of the light Bren gun when I drew this at six years old. I remember struggling drawing the soldier's teeth as you can see but at least I got the overall expression right. Teeth are difficult objects for portrait painters to master because freezing or pausing a temporary smile or snarl into permanence is an unnatural and sometimes awkward look.
